Leaking air compressor

I have a Kobalt upright air compressor that leaks down and comes on several times a day. I have soaped all connections and can't hear or see any leaks. I am thinking maybe a bad check valve. Does that sound likely? I have never worked on a compressor but that is all I can figure it can be. Thanks for any suggestions. Tommy

Could be the check valve or maybe the unloader valve. They are tucked away in the pressure switch and hard to see or hear.

Tom - I too have a Kobalt upright air compressor that had a leak, and would leak down. After spending a lot of time I finally found the leak under the platform that the compressor and motor are mounted. Mind has numerous lines that run to two separate connections with air regulators and gauges. Not to say that yours is not leaking where you suspect, but I could not hear mind leaking or could I get at the area with soap and water to see clearly see bubbles. I finally took it apart and found a loose connection. Good luck, mind was dam hard to get at the lines.

I bought a new compressor and could hear a leak about six months in. I couldn't figure it out until I finally traced it to a loose head on the pump. I snugged it back down and it has been fine since.

Tom after spending 22 years in a tire shop looking for leaks, get yourself a small bottle of leak decter aND a spray bottle. Works far better than soap. Good luck.

Thanks of or your suggestions. When we get out of this heat wave, I will pull it outside and look it over good. I may have to strip it down some to see all the fittings and I will look the welds over good. Didn't think about the welds. Tommy
