For those who didn't know my given name is Jerry.
But that's not what makes me a jerry rigger.
So we're adding on to the house.
My wife is bankrolling the project and I'm doing the building.
Mostly working alone here. Getting myself back in shape after 10 1/2 months on crutches. So I had the foundation in last fall and temporarily capped for the winter.
Started framing about 3 weeks ago. Just getting help as needed to raise the walls, etc.
So I had the walls up for the second floor but how to sheath them alone.
Well my buddy just bought a new idler pulley for a mower and when I spied it on his bench
I asked to use it for a few days.
I made this crude contraption with it and by golly it works great. Pull the sheets up with a rope and tie it off to a cleat.
Then get it set right and nail it in a few places to hold it.
I will full nail the outside from a ladder when I get them all hung.
So, I confess, my name is Jerry and I'm a jerry rigger.
If my Mom only knew.

Good job UD. I used to, and still do work by myself a lot. It spurs your creative thinking--good for older folk like me. Old saying--necessity is the mother of all inventions. Please work carefully,Gary

My grandmother always told me "Brucie, don't vorry, ver ders a vill, ders a vay!!" I say that every time I overcome a new challenge. That looks fine to me, so don't vorry.

When I was building my own house about 5 years ago was working mostly by myself and sheathed the walls when they were still laying flat, anchored the bottom with lumber strapping and raised them with a cable on my Gradall excavator, some walls 40ft long! Worked great just had a helper to steady and nail a brace when up

I am not trying to be a jerk, but wouldn't your rig be safer, if you added some plywood to the sides of all those blocks to tie them together more firmly?

The quote on my June calendar was, Intelligence is not measured by knowledge obtained, but by your imagination.

Looks good. When working along you have to be creative.

I've also heard the term "farmerized" used as a positive and as a negative.

yep, been there and done that.
how many here have built a 'T' from 2 X 4s to hang gypboard to the ceiling?
