Paint for Shop Press

My son built a Shop Press for me which was GREAT. He said that he built it but I need to paint it. My question is what type paint would last the longest and stand up to tool use? Any suggestions?

Before we get started I can't afford Power Coat or any of the High End epoxy stuff.

Thanks

Plain 'ol Rustoleum will work fine but make sure the press is clean, clean, clean. Hot soapy water and a brush, or paint prep if you don't want to get it wet with water. Grind or sand off welding splatter, then take some 80 grit, maybe 120 grit sandpaper made for a DA and sand it down. Reason for DA (dual action orbital sander) sandpaper is it seems to cut better to make the job shorter and the sticky back side will stick to your hand, until it gets dirty. It's surprising how much of a difference a few swipes can make. de-oil the steel first before you sand. Sounds like a bunch of work but it really doesn't take that long and the finish will be smoother in the end. I assume the press will be inside a shop and out of the weather. If it is out of the weather this paint job should last a lifetime. No need to prime if you don't want to but primer does give it a better looking coat. You will be looking at and using the press for a good many years so the little extra time you take in prepping it for paint is small in comparison.

Lowes has limited colors of Rustoleum qt. paint. Forset green , Smoke grey, etc. I just repainted my milling machine and press with Smoke Grey , Also my shaper. How long it lasts ? I don't know but it is my first use of this Rustoleum. It is an enamel . It covered well.

The all around best canned spray paint I have ever found is called MRO. We get it from Tacoma Screw Products which is a
regional Industrial supplier around here. Looks like they ship too. This stuff LASTS and LOOKS good. Flat out good paint. Us
it. You WILL like it.
Not horrible expensive as it comes in large 16 oz. cans so a can goes a long ways.
TSP MRO Paint

Sherwin-willaims, BA metal paint, no primer needed. I thin
it with lacquer thinner and spray it on. Drys fast. That
is what I paint my wrought iron with.
