paint restorer

While these products may work I would be apprehensive in using one. First of all they won't say what's in it so I would assume there is something like silicone in it that would give you H if and when you needed to paint.

I am not sure how this would work on what you are working on.
Ove 20 years ago I was collecting old toys. I bought this truck at a flee market and it was solid rust. I could not detect any paint. At a Toledo toy show I bought a front grill for it and ask the parts guy about what color of paint for the truck and if he had the paint. I told him I had a sand blaster and was going to strip it and repaint in the proper color. He said don't get to quick to sand blast it as it would lower its value. He said first place it in a dish pan of dish soaped water and use an sos pad to remove the rust. He said he would bet that I would find paint under the rust and even if some bare metal showed it would be worth more than a repaint. He told me if I did find paint to spray a slight mist of clear enamel in small areas and buff with an old lint free towel. It worked.

A tractor jockey from MINNesota was here yesterday and said he washed his tractors with dish wash detergent, when dry put used motor oil from diesel engine and then buffed with electric buffer. I think that will check into the Dakota product.

I've seen advertisements on TV for a wipe-on color restorer made by Rustoleum. Don't know if it's available in stores.
