My battery isn't charging when the tractor is operating. Can someone tell me a trouble shooting sequence to identify the problem?

How about some additional info: How do you measure the fact that it's not charging? How old is your mower..years and hours running time? Where do you keep it? What kind of temps are involved when mowing? Had any accidents?

Systems are really stout and not prone to failures. Main components are sealed and solid state...no moving parts. Have a L110 over 10 yrs old, 700+ hours, and other mowers close to the same age, all with the same type of charging system....never a problem.

My #1 take would be the electrical connector between the mower's wiring harness and the engine....corrosion. #2 would be corrosion at the battery terminals. #3 depending on my first question above (how did you.....) what condition is your battery? #4 would be the pickup coil under the flywheel may have corroded terminals if exposed due to cracked varnish (insulation).

Need to know what year it is. Model and serial number. But I agree with Texas. Check your connections and battery post. Clean them up. The charging system is very rugged. Charging section is protected by the flywheel. Not much to go wrong.Battery voltage should be around 13-14 volts when running.

Also what engine does it have? My older Deere with a kowe had the plug on the regulator fry. Wiped out the plug, regulator, and that part of the harness.
