Hamilton Drill Press

I like my drill presses. I have a few, more than a few. I like older ones that are made nice. I didn't need another, but I saw this cute little one on Craig's list. It was more than I would normally spend. It was so interesting I couldn't pass it up. So I took it home, gave $100.00 for it. Probably more than it is worth. It looks like it was hardly used. The power cord is the original fabric wrapped cord in really good condition. The belt is round leather. Once I heard it run I had to take it home. Looks like something is missing from one small threaded hole in the knob to lower the quill. Could use a cleanup, but really nice.

Years ago I worked in a job shop. They had an old HEAVY drill press, wish I had a picture. It had a large table with slots for "T" keys (clamp downs) and a ratchet system to power feed the drill, so it could work unattended. As I recall it handled 1" drills going thru thick steel.

Definition of sensitive drill

: a drilling machine that responds to delicate adjustments

That may have been a "sensitive drilling machine" back in the day! Would hardly qualify now! But it will be a valuable tool for your shop, for doing just what it says. Good find!

That's a old timer, it is a precision machine, made for drilling and tapping small holes. The construction is such that it keeps the spindle square with the work. Nice find!

When I worked at the US Naval Ordance plant in Macon GA in the early 60's we had some small Hamilton drill presses for drilling real small holes, high rpm's.
