Hate this Washing Machine

We bought a new washer little over a year ago. Had the service guys out here couple of times. Replaced machine with a new one still had problems. None could fix the problem. Keeps showing a low water pressure fault and turns the machine off during the rinse cycle.
I put in a hose pressure gauge by machine. When the guys blamed it on low water pressure I showed them the gauge.

The hose has 40psi of pressure minimum but over time the cold water entering the machine goes to a trickle.
Hot water works perfect. Problem is only on the cold side.

Come to find out its sand from my well plugging up the parts in the machine.
I have a cheep whole house water filter because I get some rust every now and then.

But this sand is so fine it is getting past the 5 micron whole house water filter.
It never clogs the screen in my sink faucet.

So now I am on the fence to believe this whole house filter is no good and I need a better one
Or do I just add a better filter in the washer line.

I want my old machine back. It worked perfect with my water.

New washers are a pain! Technology overkill. Had the same trouble with a Samsung washer after getting a new well pump installed. Pump was sucking up silt and clogging the filter screen on cold water input line. Eventually the well settled down and the silt stopped. I would not toss the whole house filter, just put a filter on the cold line to the washer. You'll be able to check the amount of crud getting to the washer. But sounds like your well (assuming you have one) or water source may be putting out more and more silt -- I would look into taking care of that problem first.

I don't have a solution, but we just bought a new Maytag washer. It will be delivered and installed next week.

Our old "Kitchen Aide" is at least 30 years old, and is flat worn out. I get the "Willies" every time I listen to it.

We'll see how it works out.

My old washer was having some problems, unbalanced load and water pressure. Cleaned the screens on the water valve on the machine and leveled the machine front to back. Works like a million bucks again.

Any problem I have with stuff, I google it and youtube it. Usually saves me bucks.

John I had a problem similar to yours. We have hard water and get some very fine sediment/sand. Got a new fridge with a water dispenser and ice maker. It wouldn't get enough pressure from the line to do anything. The old fridge had an ice maker and never had a problem. Ended up changing out the line and was fine for a few weeks then wouldn't work. I ended up getting a 2nd whole house filter. I plumbed the two filters next to each other. On one I run a 5 micron filter that is like a Styrofoam material and on the second a 10 micron filter that looks like it is made of string. Both canister style like you showed. I haven't had a problem since. Wife says she thinks the water pressure dropped in the shower but I can't tell one bit of a difference with two filters.

I suspect the 5 micron filter is the problem. It's too fine, clogs quickly and starts bypassing. That feature may be built into the filter.

Might go with a coarser filter, one specifically for sand.

Also there is probably an accumulation of sand in the lines. When the solenoid valve opens suddenly, the surge carries the sand to the washer. A secondary, smaller filter just for the washer would stop that.

We bought a new Amana a couple of months ago, the business owner said your not going to think it works or sounds right, delivery guy said everybody complains about the sounds the new ones make. It's goofy sounding, starts/stops, ratcheting sounds, locking lid solenoid click, half dozen or so mode lights, but it works. Supposed to use less water, less hot water and less soap.

We bought a new speed queen. It was the only brand we could find without computer or any electronics. Still has the mechanical timer. Wife loves it therefore I love it.

My is the same deal it does a good job and saves water.. I don't stand by it while its at work so its no problem for me... :D

I have the same machine in a rental they beach about the noise... I tell'em to buy there own machine if they don't like it...

Wish never bought our washer. Work clothes comes out looking dirtier then when put in. Takes twice as long to do a load, there for cost more in electricity.

I bet you problem is the water inlet screens are too tight and clog easily. Try a coarser screen or remove the screen totally. Except for those screens, there is nothing in the washer with small enough passages to be clogged with a bit of silt or sand.

Wife wanted a HIGH tech washer and dryer. The washer lasted 3-4 years and that was with warranty and after warranty work. Finally when the pump started leaking I said enough. On the recommendations of some repair guys on here we bought a Speed Queen. Zero computers simple old dial. ZERO troubles in the 3 years we have had it. Not called an energy saver or anything but it used less energy than the old washer. It might use more water but I do not care as the cloths are cleaner and it is faster.

Ours always bothered too till I threw away the screens and that took care of it.
