Larry's post below reminded me. Many years ago(Like almost 40) We were removeing the knives in a IH#55 chopper. they were TIGHT.Before the third or fourth bolt was loosened/removed we managed to break 5,yes 5 1 1/8" half inch drive sockets. Snapon,craftsman,proto,SK....... Finally a kid who was helkping went and brought out a 'elcheapo' $9.99 socket set.Would you believe that cheap poor quality socket took off ALL the rest of the bolts? We were all speechless. All we could figure was the good sockets were too hard, brittle. the cheap was soft and held up instead uf breaking.

Same reason a Civic is more dependable than a Maserati. Value priced tools, appliances and cars are better. When 5,000,000 units get sold flaws get found early then fixed. Within reason.

Quality sockets are generally thinner than the cheapos. So the cheap sockets work fine until you need to use them in a tight space.

That's amazing..I like good quality tools..Snap on guy was at work yesterday showing new toolbox with gadgets and this that and the other..28,000.00??..that's out a my league I told him..

Hello DeltaRed,

Were you using an impact wrench? Were the sickets made for the tool you were using. Impact socket flex and give some, regular sockets don't. Also impact sockets are not to be used for fastener torqweing..........cause the flex!

Guido.

Sometimes the cheaper tools get their strength by bulking up their tool (thicker metal) so sometimes they could be stronger than the name brands.
