Allis Chalmers 715D Backhoe

I've got an Allis Chalmers 715D with a Cummins diesel. She runs pretty good, until recently. I had it sitting for a few weeks and went to start it. She ran for a half minute and died. I cranked and she starts right up then dies in a few seconds. Finally gave up, and let her sit. I go later and try again and she starts and runs, bad but runs. I get it up to the barn and pull the fuel filters. They look bad, so I run to Napa and get new fuel filters. One is a water drain and pre filter, and the second is the main filter, I think. So I fill the filters with fuel and she starts right up and runs fine. Great one problem fixed. I let her sit and couple of weeks, and the same thing, dies on startup, wont run for more than a few seconds. I let it sit for an hour and she starts and runs fine? I'm baffled. I'm thinking maybe air getting in the fuel system somewhere? I see no leaks. Wondering if anyone has an idea.

Run a couple gallon fuel right from fuel tank. Probably have alge in fuel. Treet it and drain tank and burn brush with it.

Hello rfazio,

Take a look at the interior of the fuel tank. Also make sure tbe vent is working. Check the fuel line to the filter, crack it open and check for flow. The symptoms point to low fuel volume,

Guido.
