No lift mower blades?

SWMBO has a Husqvarner 48" mower. Since we moved to Fla it looks like a dust storm when she mows the yard/weeds. Anyone know a good supplier for a *flat* sand blade for Huskys? I've seen low lift but I think a NO lift would do better here - like a bush hog. Thanks for any info!

(Years ago she decided that mowing was her therapy.....I try not to interfere with it.)

Hello Bud in Fla,

Even a straight blade will pick up and displace dirt. Raising the blade so it cuts only grass is more likely the fix. You could sneek in a stop bolt under the deck to keep it up higher, but you might get in trouble though!

GUIDO.

Designed to lift the blades for a smooth cut. It also lifts sand, pebbles, grit and dust which is then drawn into eyes, ears, hair, nose, throat, engine cooling fins and carb filter; plus it is pulled through the blades which erodes the blades away. My solution, raise cutting height, cut often with reduced engine rpms. I know, I know; manufacturer states. Cut often, cut cleaner, enjoy more.

Mowing sand will eventually wear the lift edge off the blades. If it will still cut satisfactorily, just keep running the worn out blades!

I was kinda afraid there wasn't much that could be done. I know my bush hog has flat blades and doesn't kick up too much dust. The Husky with the lift blades puts so much dirt/sand/dust in the air that you can't hardly see or breathe. It was worth a shot, anyway. Thanks for the info!

I know what you mean, my bushog with high lift blades does great picking up downed grass but boy when you pass over the driveway does it make a cloud! Maybe you can trim off the little angled up edge on the back of your blade, just check balance after

Bud,
I have a 48 inch husky trim mower, lift blades. Not sure where but I think there are mulching blades for same mower. I use lift blades because I have a bagger to pick up leafs.

That said, mow at dust or dark and you will see a ring of sparks around each blade. They are being sand blasted and that will make your bladed dull and no longer lift.

I can't stand dust, pollen and grass mold stirred up by any mower, period. I changed the rules, forget when it's the best time to mow. I mow when grass is a little damp with dew. Don't suck up dirt. Not only are you sandblasting the blades, you underside of deck is sandblasted too.

Blades last me many times longer. My sinuses are better. Mower breathes too, air filters last longer.
Try mowing when grass is damp, tell us how it works for you.

Guido,
Agree, I have two woods 72 inch mowers. They have 3 two ft flat blades. The blades on the RM660 behind jubilee the estimated tip speed around 200 mph when engine speed is 1800. The blades sing in the wind. Flat blades still pitch the grass out. It will suck up dirt too.

Recently a tree branch took my hat off, I looked back, couldn't get stopped fast enough. Mower sucked in my hat and spit it out 20 ft. I thought there goes another free menards hat. Worried I couldn't find the camo hat and it would be trashed. To my surprise it wasn't. The last blade sucked it it and inches later spit it out. Now I call my hat LUCKY.

Practically all blades made now are the high lift type. Good luck finding flat blades. Check with commercial mower dealers. They may have some special blades.

Bud, gator blades have much less lift, reducing engine speed also helps. I sell a lot of low lift blades, but don't know of any truly flat (no lift) blades.

A company called MFG Supply lists no lift blades. I don't know if they have what you want but take a look. I use the high lift and cut my yard to 2" height and have an established yard.

You might want to check out the Oregon fusion sand blades. They have a lift but are slotted so the dust is much less. I use them on the mower at my daughters house because of the dust storm and they are much better than a regular blade.

Living in South Jersey you need the correct blades. It is an all sand giant cat box to mow in. Sand just eats the day lights out of your deck. You want what are called SAND blades. Have little throw and are flat as a pool table. Have just a little tail on the end. Use a lot less power too. Look on Fleabay and look up this number for a picture to give you and idea of what you need. 330859785472. Blade for a commercial bob cat. They are out there but you may need to dig a round a little.
