I saw this topic discussed in the archives so thought I'd put my issue out there. 2008 EZ-GO gas 4 cycle. Got it out for first time yesterday. Started ok then died. Engine is flooding to the point it won't turn over due to amount of gas in cylinder. Take the plug out to force gas out but but just fills back up. Any ideas?

Sounds like the float is stuck to the bottom of the bowl allowing full flow of gas into carb then flooding thru the intake valve into the cylinder. I have a lawn mower with an electric solenoid on the carb. When engine is shut off supposed to stop any fuel flow thru the carb. I had to install valve in the fuel line so cylinder would not be full of fuel. jmo gobble

The needle valve in the carb is stuck open, possibly from evaporating gas that left residue behind. Not sure what carb you have, but most are an easy fix, just ease the bowl off and clean it up with spray carb cleaner. Sometimes you can get by with pulling the fuel line off and spraying the cleaner through the fitting.

If there is a fuel shut off valve on the tank, be a good idea to turn it off after each use, and run the carb empty if it is going to be stored for more than a couple weeks.

You'll want to change the oil, chances are it is now contaminated with gas.

I tool the bowl off the carb to check the float and all looked ok. Turned over the engine to pump fuel and held the float up and it shut off the flow. Put it back together and at this point engine is running fine. Going to assume the float was stuck open after sitting all winter. Thanks for all your help and feedback,

If alls well, a float in the carb bowl rises and pushes a needle valve up into its seat to shut off the gas flow at the correct float level. However it can get stuck down in the open position due to gum or varnish so it will overflow. Often gumout can clean it so it works again, if not remove and clean.

Some ezgos have a fuel pump on the side of the engine that is operated by vacuum. If it goes bad, the crank case will fill up..

Thanks, This one has the fuel pump on the side of the gas tank and it does run off crankcase vacuum.
