I am looking for suggestions on a lock box to secure a hand gun in my pick-up when I need to go into places that don't allow carry.
I want key lock not combo.

There are a number of vehicle lock boxes and vaults on the market. I take it you want one that is bolted to vehicle not just a lock box stuck up under seat or console. I would find a good gun shop and talk to them because it will be hard to find a gun shop that has them in stock you will most likely have to order it and if you do find a shop that has one it is usually the cheap ones.

Its pretty easy to put a lock on an ammo can with some modifications, and you could bolt it through the floor. I use the 30 cal ones for secure game cameras, more for protection from bears than thief's, here's the bear I'm worried about.

I bought one at a Big R store, although it is a pushbutton combo and has a key. You can set your own combo. The key is for when the battery runs down, you could just not install a battery in it. It is about 11.5 by 8, by 4 inches deep. Cost $60.00 plus sales tax. It will keep the kids from getting your hand gun. Big R had several other choices, I also go to a Rual King store and they have some also. Wish you luck. joe

Problem is if the box is not welded into your truck pretty much anybody can steal it and make off with your gun. I don't even like to lock a gun in the car trunk since they can be opened up pretty fast if you know how to do so

Those are nice to keep kids out but for in a vehicle you want one they can't walk away with if they break into vehicle.

Open up, drill 2 holes bolt it down anymore than that leave it at home.

not 40 years ago had guns in the back window rack of pick-up do it today

you go to jail time and ways change fast, election coming up may have

more unwanted changes.

You're being much more responsible than various gun toting public employees; cops, rangers, federal agents, etc. Cali has a law pending Gov. Moonbeam's signature that will force them to either use a lock box or put the gun in the trunk; instead of leaving it on the front seat in a brief case or gym bag. Like they do now.

So the street thieves see the bag or case, break the passenger window and take off with the gun. Then they trace the gun to a killing a few weeks later in SF or Oakland.

To put it under the seat, you're going to need some kind of front loading box. Not enough room to get your paw into a top hinged box and pull the gun under the seat.

Take a look at V-Line 2912-S or Fort Knox FTK-PB or American Security EZ. These are Simplex Mechanical locks that need no keys or batteries and easy to open. I have had one on night stand for years and use it when kids were little and now grand kids.

I would bolt it to vehicle cable to easy to cut today with the little torches we have today . I also like the mechanical locking system (No battery or key) .

Agreed - and the lock box looks like it has a gun (or something valuable) in it - where as the gym bag probably has somebody's dirty laundry. If the box isn't bolted down and hidden the car just as well have a sign that says "Gun in car come get it".
