UTB Universal 650 DT Super ??'s

Hi all, Since my SAME has PTO issues that I do not have time to repair right now, I have found and bought a Universal 650DT Super.. It seems to run fine and all the functions seem to work ok, so it should work ok for the season.
Im in the process of changing fluids and filters. I do have a original service manual that is in English, but it is very vague with regular maintenance.
For instance the motor oil says use sae 30 or 40. Im going to use 15/40 diesel oil..
Also the manual does not represent the hydraulic system very well as the manual is for a 650M &651M.. Mine is a 650DT Super.
There seems to be a additional hydraulic system on mine that has a enclosed filter and steel tube line that runs horizontally along the lower right hand side of the machine. It appears to be a suction side of a hyd. pump mounted lower right front of motor.
The steel tube goes into the right hand fide of casing where the Manual I have says that's where the hyd pump is located.
What iam trying to determine right now is the oil used for this hyd system. There is a case, rear of the clutch enclosure and front of the gear box that seems to be part of hyd. system. There is a plug on the right hand side, just above half way that looks to be a fluid level plug???
Im wondering what type of fluid goes in there as there is very little in it ( way below desired level) I think??

Anyone who knows these tractors would be great to talk to Thanks

I have an UTB445DT which has a similar sounding tube to a similar sounding hydraulic pump (the main pump for the system).
On mine the same oil serves the gearbox, rear end & hydraulic system & there is a dipstick on the right side of the gearbox housing.
Most of these UTBs are licensed FIATs, so it may be worth researching which FIAT your 650 is for better information?

Sounds like my old Long. The hydraulic fluid is also used in the transmission and rear end. The hydraulic oil filter is steel mesh which needs to be cleaned
out occasionally, depending on usage. It uses what is called Tractor Hydraulic oil.

Pto is a double faced clutch arrangement. There is lever on the trans. case which engages a gear for the pto, which is best engaged with the engine off or at
slow idle. There is a lever which engages the pto clutch and disengages it which the book says leave in the engaged position except for short periods to prevent
excessive wear on the throwout bearing. If you are, for example, baling hay, it's all right to leave the lever up in the disengaged position while turning
around, but if you are going to another field across the road disengage the gear lever and leave the clutch lever down in the engaged position. All this has the
effect of giving the operator independent pto as opposed to live pto.

Think the Fiat/UTB 650 is basically the same tractor as the Oliver 1365 and the Long 560.UTB tractors are Fiats built in Romania. The whole rear and transmission is the
hydraulic resvoir and the hydraulic pump is on the front right hand side of the engine. The system uses standard hydraulic fluid and you check the fluid level with the dipstick just in front
of the seat on the right hand side next to the parking brake lever.

Thanks for all the info gents.

That sheds a bit of light on things.. The manual I have says the gear box takes 60 litres of sae 80 oil. seems a bit thick for hyd fluid. would a aw 46 or 68 hyd fluid be ok? Or that tractor hyd fluid ( the red stuff) ??

Hi. thanks for the info.. But I cant find the dip stick or parking brake leaver. the case is a vent plug, in front of the seat, just to the left of center. It is only 1/4 npt thread, and no dip stick on it. I did manage to get a old dip stick from another engine and get it down there. There is oil in it, but it is well below center of axle shaft, ( assuming that would be a appropriate level.)

Hmmm... the only place 80/90 weight oil is specified on mine is for the front hubs(4 WD) & the final drives - the back axle is a portal type arrangement with an oil bath each side for the final drive gears.
I've had mine about 10 years, it has >9000 hours up now & I've always used Universal Tractor Oil (which is about 15W40 I believe) for engine, power steering system(separate small reservoir on mine) & the hydraulics/gearbox/rear end.

I looked up the 650 DT Super in my UTB book and it has a different set up from the 560 Long as far as the trans and rear are concerned so you need to look farther to find out which oil to use where for sure. Its more like a small UTB 800.Unfortunately my book is in some foreign language so I don't know what all its says about the tractors.

Hi I will take some pics of mine and post. Maybe you can poimnt out where the dipstick should be.. I did use 15w40 in the engine. I just dumped the oil from the front diff and will use 80w90 in it. the steering box oil you mentioned, is that the one under the steering wheel or the one at the front that has the pitman arm?
Also what grade of oil in the gearbox / rear end? thanks
