Copper Ignition wires

I am going to replace ignition wires on my 26 Buick. It has copper wires now but hard to find. Are the newer type wires ok on an old car. thanks

Ebay has the solid wire, could also find it at speed shops, restoration suppliers, etc.

If you want to use resistor wire, I would go with the spiral core, not the graphite core. The old ignition systems might not like the high resistance of the graphite.

You can find the solid, copper core wires at nearly any farm supply store. Comes as a universal kit for a 4 cylinder. Might be available also for 6 cylinder engines. You cut the wires to the length desired, install the rubber boot, and then install the brass, terminal end. For best results, the brass terminal needs to be soldered. Easy enough to do.

Steve, old engine or antique tractor suppliers have all the copper spark plug wire you would ever want in all shapes n sizes even colors. Assuming you don't have to worry about ignition related radio interference in that old Buick, I would use low resistance copper core plug wires versus carbon core resistive suppressor wires intended to reduce radio interference, that's even more important in magneto ignition systems then your battery powered ignition. Sure carbon core suppressor plug wires will still "work" but the antique car n truck n tractors Ive seen use copper plug wires. Any pictures for us???

I buy tire wire plug wires all the time. Places like O'Reilly's and Napa have them or can get them. I have a set right now sitting in my car so as to have them when some one need me to fix there tractor

Packard 440 was the standard back when! I still have part of a roll that is used for appications like yours.

You probably know this but you can buy shielded copper core wires if RF interferance is a problem. "Back In The Day"ham operators slid a woven wire jackets over wires and soldered them to a tomato can covering dist cap. Looked weird but cut the static.
