Mom has one and it has been a lot of problems. Good thing she got the extended warranty. Igniters going bad have been a big issue in the past. Now some wire had the insulation fried off of it. I think the dealers service guys are not the best ? Anyone know if this model is known to have a lot of troubles ? Any way to make the igniters last ?

Trane/Carrier are good products now. BUT that may change in the near future. They are in the process of moving production to Mexico taking 1400 American jobs with them

I have the trane xl90 two stage. The 2nd stage doesn't work so I disabled it at the thermostat. It works OK. According to my research the stepper motor and control board need replaced. Not going to happen. It's a POS.
Did anyone service it before the problems started. We have a XE80 in our house and had problems one fall with the igniters lasting a month. After the third or fourth igniter I called a Trane dealer to come and look it over, other than the local HVAC guy(landlords choice). We had problems with the Freon leaking out (ancient unit outside) and the "A" coil above the furnace would freeze up. During one of the thaws, it must have ran water over the control board and fried it. The local HVAC guy put the wrong control board on causing the igniter failures. Took Trane dealer awhile to figure out with multiple calls to factory. The local HVAC guy showed up a couple days later, factory must have called him, they were getting tired of paying warranty igniters. Said its fixed, he wanted to check it out, and said it had the right one, no kidding!!

Trane and Carrier are 2 totally different companies. They both have ben moving some manufacturing to Monterey Mexico for several years.
