had a hyd hose blow on my massey ferguson 203 stableiser. the fittings on the old hose screw toghter and say 3/8 x 1w. my question is can i buy 3/8 1 wire hyd hose and reuse my fittings.

If you have a shop that rebuilds hydraulics and most of them build new hoses to match yours and may be able to use your ends.

You say you have screw-on fittings and you want to buy hose to install in those fittings. Those fittings were designed to allow users to make up hose in the field and are not as robust as swaged on fittings, but if you have had good service it will be cheaper to reuse those fittings. Cut your hose in two so you can see the inside and outside diameter, then go to an auto parts or home store and see whether they have a hose that matches. I bet you'll get lucky.

reusable hose ends, or 'stratoflex' as we used to call em, used to be common & popular on truck oil/air lines. problem got to be a match between replacement hose & your old end. it sure was handy to be able to make-up a hose on-site

No he won't, a home store will have a
hose that matches diameter maybe but not
pressure. Maybe a good auto parts
stores, maybe, but most likely a
hydraulic shop. Unless they are large or
unusual fittings it's not worth it. For
example a regular #8 (1/2 inch) hose to
pipe or hose to jic fitting is around 5
bucks, very affordable and much better
connection to the hose

Yeah I said "home" store meant to say farm store. I wish I could find hose ends for five dollars. I have to pay $10 to $15 then $7 to get them crimped. Farm store has premade hose from our favorite country so I rarely get hoses made up because of the cost but it seems my Bobcat always needs something made up.

You'll need to go to a hydraulic hose supply to get the right hose. It needs to be exactly the right ID and OD to work. If any doubt, be better to have a new crimped end hose made.

Most hose shops won't reuse the reusable ends for liability reasons.

Surplus Center has hoses and all sorts of fittings/adapters at good prices.I've used many of their hoses and always good quality and has saved me big $$$$ over what the
local places want for theirs.

Call this guy (Kent 620-364-2930) of course he is only 60 or 70 miles from me and if you ask he will use a flat rate box.
I have a junk parker carry crimp and use 43 series fittings. He has lots of them with good prices plus when I buy hose he will sell remnants of reels at a discount, just tell him you need xx feet 3/8 hose and need one piece minimum x feet or nothing shorter than x feet. Plus I have another method to post a picture of so old can beat me up. HTH Tom

Andy:

Buy Aeroquip fittings, they're reusable stainless steel fittings.

Back when I worked in the Mines that's all we used. Usually when a machine blew a line, the machine was back in one of the
tunnels ( 1000 feet underground ) and miles from our Underground Maintenance Shop ( we had over 20 miles of tunnels ) . I
always carried an assortment of fittings, couplings, & adapters in my tool box, and I could make an on-site repair with just
basic hand tools ( Hacksaw, two Crescent wrenches, a pair of Vice-Grip pliers, and my pocket-knife to skive off the outer
layer of rubber ) . If the line was easily accessable the on-site repair usually only took about 20 minutes time.
