Hello,

Have you ever been so tired, that you think you'll go out as soon as your head hits the pillow, and then....
Sheep #1; Sheep#2 and so on. What do you guys and gals do?
What works for me, most of the time, is just star counting backswords slowly. I tried 1000 1 1000 2 but when I start with 4 digits counting backward, seems to distract me from the other things that are keeping me awake. Try it! it Works for me,

Guido.

When I can't sleep, I figure the Lord needs to talk to me about something...

So I start praying silently. I'll be asleep in seconds!

Hello Andy Martin,

We got decons at times! They read from a piece of paper. About a minute for me, every time!

Counting backwards works for me too. I try to picture the numbers in my mind as I count, it helps to keep other thoughts from creeping in.

In basic training a half bottle of Nyquil every night. The drills would do whatever to us until about Midnight, then have us up again about 4 or maybe 5AM again. First week of basic training, no matter how dead tired, couldn't sleep. I learned. When we were marched to the PX, bought a truckload of Nyquil. Guzzle a half bottle each night, hit the bunk, out cold in minutes until the drills would come in throwing trash cans and flipping us out of our bunks a few hours later. A sound sleep for 3, 4, maybe 5 hours though. What sheep?

Good luck.

Mark

Count to ten slowly, then take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can. Repeat as long as necessary.

Reminds me of our son when he was about 4 years old. If he could not sleep we told him to count sheep. So he started, apparently visualizing the sheep: two, four, six, eight, ... We asked him why he counted like this. His reply: they are walking side by side. ROFLMAO

In one of John D. McDonald's Travis McGhee novels, the protagonist describes how he makes himself fall asleep. He imagines there is a black ball inside his head, right behind his forehead. He focuses on that ball not thinking about anything else, and imagines it slowly growing until it fills his brain. I use this trick from time to time and it seems to work. Of course it's just a way to empty your mind and focus your thoughts on something other than what it is that's keeping you awake.
