Said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.?

I think that applies to tractor tires too. Why patch them only to run over a nail, then patch them again, and again, and again, that's insane.

Sullivan tire removed the tubes from my Jubilee's tires. Cleaned the rust out of the rims, installed valve stems, put bead sealer on rims and installed slime for $24 each.

No more worry about flats caused by nails or thorns.

Now I have 3 tractor tires slimmed.

Let you know if I ever have any more flats.

I think it's time to do things a different way and stop the insanity.

$24 is cheaper than having tires foamed.

Whatever works.

I've never had that many problems with flat tires except when they blew out from age.
 
Strange you have that many nails laying around. BTW, this reminds me, I saw 2 what I think were NEW John Deere zero turn mowers being used by a lawn service and the rear main wheels looked like what amish put on tractors, spooked wheels with a rubber tread. They wouldn't have to worry about flat.

Though I do have the rare puncture, I repair all myself.

I also occasionally repair a tire for a friend.

I will never work on any tire that has been slimed.

I slimed one of my wife's 4-wheeler tires last week, seems good now. Used to have to air it up every week, looked for a nail and couldn't find anything.
 
I don't know the name of the slime my tire place uses. Comes in a 5 gallon bucket. The guy putting it in my tire had to stop and poke out the valve stem because the hair and beads in the slime choked up the valve stem. Are you using green slime? I used green stuff to seal a bead on my mower tire, it worked. This stuff is a bluish slime. Next trip there, I'll find out what it's called.

I've found that I can usually repair my own tires in less time than it takes to load them up, take them to the tire store, either wait for them to be repaired or come back later and haul them back home.

Been doing it for years without issues.

Those things were a pain in the butt.Go through a 5 ton tire just as easy as they could. A 1/4 ton tire.Ft Hood is covered in Mesquite trees.

The guy that told me about Sullivan Tire worked at a coal mine. He said they have slime in all there tires. Good enough for a coal mine, good enough for me.
 

Slime is good and bad. If the tire is used daily, slime works perfectly. If its used rarely, and the hole ends up on top, the tire can go low before you use it again.

In the mesquite country, slime and 22 ply aircraft tires are the standard. Rear tires however have to survive on slime alone.

RULES... NEVER leave a tractor/implement in the field, ALWAYS park it next to air, water and electricity... Even if over night, or you will come back to a flat, or busted bead and no way an air tank or small compressor will get you going. Some implements require serious dismantling to get a tire off. Needing a jack, jack stands and air impact.

Long term storage, all axles get blocked up so that when your ready to re-used equipment, tires will not be rotted, not have a broken bead, and can simply be aired up, and then rolled to reseal all leaks. Slime will dry out over time so always keep 5 gallons around to add as needed... On daily use, any tires that go a bit low, get a new dose of slime and all it good a again for a year or two. The kawasaki mules usually get reslime every 3 to 4 years or till the tires split due to 15 thousand thorns in them. Older tires get tubes and slime due to all the cracks in them. Aircraft tires are definately the way to go as you may have one flat every 5 years or so.

Before slime and aircraft tires, we could have 5 flats a day, and had to keep lots of spare tires of all sizes on hand for all the equipment, in order to get any work done. two people ran tractors and two people ran tires. Still outran the spares on some days. it takes about 5/10 years on a newly cleared field for all the mesquite thorns to fully rot and go away. Still have a rare flat on those fields, but it really wonderful to get work done and not run flats.
