I had to buy a special Torx socket to remove the truck seats. I had to get them on line. So I would say they do make torx bolts too.

6 point can be removed with a 12 point socket, there is also a spline head bolt, if that's it you'll need the spline wrench or socket. If it indeed is a male Torx get a Torx head machine screw screw two nuts on the back of it and tighten them against each other. Put your torx head machine bolt ON the bolt in question and put a socket on the nuts you jammed together and remove the bolt from the block that hold's your carb on

They make both male and female Trox sockets and drivers. I have a set or 2 of both and yep I have run into those on small engines more then once

Lowe's has some box end wrenches with square tooth looking teeth that are supposed to fit just about everything. They fit square all right, but I think that's the first thing I've used them on except hex.

You sure you got 5 points? I think the 6 points were called a inverted torx.

OK went and looked at it again and yes it indeed looks 6 pointed now.
Looks like a round pin with 6 points just like a torx bit.
Looking around on the net I now see these sockets.
wisbaker gave me a idea. Found a torx head wood screw I had around here and it fits right on it.
Did not know they made female torx sockets.
Thanks guys.

I think car manufacturers are in cahoots with the tool manufacturers. Car people change fasteners to keep us out and make us buy more tools. There is a conspiracy here.

John, I've removed them by double nutting them. Jam nuts work best. The ones I've removed were 1/4-20 thread.

It is called an internal torx. I have one on an 8 horse briggs. Never could find a socket small enough to fit it. Ended up getting a whole set of them at O'Reilly's Auto. Probably will never have a use for any of the other sizes.

They are E-torx, ( E as in external). They've been around for a long time and are pretty common to see in automobiles.

What's starting to be more common is the XZN, aka triple square or spline, more common to see in european auto's but coming around in others. These are not typical 12pt sockets, they resemble a torx bit but are 12pt.
