Balkamp analizer

Does anyone have the operators manual(instructions) on how to use this dwell-tack-points analyzer? The number on the back is - 4-4757/700-1097
I should be kinda simple as there are only three wires. Bat pos/ bat neg/ and hook to the spark plug with some kind of adaptor. Nothing happens when I hook it up so it may be beyond using.
Thanks, Tom/Idaho

dwell meters always hook to small post on coil... positive to ignition side, and other lead to the points side of the coil. The negative lead only allows measurement of points resistance and voltage, not dwell IIRC... BUt is been a while...

Hello Tom/Idaho,

The test-third lead goes to the distributor side of the coil,

Guido.

I"m trying to use this on a 2N 1945 Ford with a front mount coil, 6 volt pos grnd. Only has the ignition post on the top of the coil to check RPM"s. Thanks again, Tom/Idaho

The tractor (IF still "as original") is (+) ground, so the points side of the coil is the (+) side.

Do you know WHERE the (+)/points-side terminal is on a 2N Ford coil?

All I really want to do is test the RPM"s. When I hook the 3rd lead that has an adapter/converter of some sort onto the top of # 1 spark plug and the pos/neg leads to the battery the needle on the meter does not move. I"m not sure what the adapter/converter does but it seems essential to the test as one end hooks on to the top of the spark plug and the other end hooks to the spark plug wire. It has a space to hook the 3rd wire.
Thanks again,
Tom/Idaho

Tom,A dwell meter can be used on a 8N,2N,9N front mount distributor by twisting a small insulated wire ,like bell wire 6 or 8 inches long to the pig tail at the bottom of the coil. Then run it out from the bottom of the coil so the dwell meter leed can be hooked to the wire end.Dwell should be 35 to 38 degrees.
