Does anyone have a link to a source for 3/4" INSIDE DIAMETER DOM pipe? I need about half a foot of it to make sleeves to join some 3/4" OD material. I can find sources for pipe that is close to .75 ID but not exact. There is no such animal as "close enough" unless maybe it is a tiny hair over 3/4" ID. Any links appreciated.

dom, or drawn over mandrell is seamless tubing, not pipe. google dom tubing. a lot of it is used in the manufacture of hydraulic cylinders and rops structures for race cars. for nly about a 6 inch piece, your best bet is a local machine shop and have them get you a drop . (i used to work for a tubing and pipe supplier)

DOM is considered "tubing" not pipe. Therefore it is measured by the OD and WALL THICKNESS. So, decide what wall thickness you need, multiply that by 2, subtract that from 3/4". Example, 1"OD x 1/8" wall x 2 = 3/4" ID.

Might try Metal Supermarket or Mc Master Carr or Ebay. Trying to buy it from a steel yard, they will only sell a full stick, around 20'.

Find your local race car builder. Not sure if they'll have a smaller size but will have plenty of drop.

Elsewise visit a machine shop and have couple made out of good steel.

Check with a machine shop. If they don't have it they can get it. Most steel suppliers won't deal with that small an amount. We have .750 id. X 1.250 od. at work. I believe you would have to run a .750 drill bit through it to get .750 cold rolled round to go through it.

As mentioned, ID is not the critical dimension with DOM tube, so you're going to get a bit of variation. I've used Online Metals before with good results, and they list 1" OD x 0.12 wall thickness as having a nominal ID of 0.76". They'll sell you any length you want. You could also get tubing with a thicker wall and ream it out to 0.75" or whatever you need.

I think I may have a piece of 3/4 ID DOM at work. I will check 1st thing tomorrow. I work near Gaines. Ron

Appreciate all the help! I am thinking the fastest and best way to go here might be to take my shaft that I am making the sleeve for over to one of the machine shops south of here and have them custom make the sleeves. I used to have a lot of that sort of thing done. Sort of back door stuff since they are all larger shops, but they are always happy to do it.

A "tiny hair" can mean different things in different industries. In construction it can be 1/16 inch, in electronics it can be a micron (.000040 inch).

How long do the sleeves need to be?

What wall thickness are you looking for. My steel book shows several sizes with a .750 hole. 1" 1-1/16 1-1/8 so that is why the wall thickness you need. 1-1/4 would give a 1/4 inch wall thickness.
