Screws that take a 3 sided screwdriver

I have 2 electric tea kettles with each one having a different defective part. I was going to swap the one part and have a good one. What is the name for that type of screw? I need to buy a screw driver for them! Thanks in advance. J.

Might be a tri-wing screwdriver. Common in some electronic applications like Nintendo consoles.

Hello Jschwiebert,

They are called security screws. A kit with abouf 30 different types and sizes are available at Harbor Freight. They are just tips, it takes a 1/4 " driver to use them,

GUIDO.

Made to keep the paddy fingers out of stuff. The big set we have at work has something like 135 different types and sizes in it. Super over kill. Lists on fleabay for around $60.oo. Look on there and see if what you need is in the set and then buy the cheapest you need. Many under $20.oo.

I have the HF set; I needed them to work on my pressure washer, plus a few other things.

I've taken a number of household things apart that had those screws. I just find a regular flat tip screwdriver that will fit one side to the other. I've always "gotten away with it".

Hello Again,

Here is the Harbor Freight set. $4 as I recall,

Guido.
