What is it (tank type thing)?

On my property we have my grandfather's shop. It chalked full of treasures, everything from 1927 Chevy Coupe parts to every used head gasket he ever replace. OK, so they're not all treasures but there's so cool stuff, a lot of it I haven't a clue what it is.

Not sure why but I tripped over this yesterday and it caught my eye. Any idea what it might be for?

I could flood the forum with theses kind of questions. There's boxes and boxes of stuff and hard anything in the boxes are what the labels say. :)

I think you guys that suggested brooder heaters might be on to something.

I don't recall them raising a lot of chickens BUT then did raise turkeys. We also live in what was once the "Broiler Capital of the World" so that stuff would be around. I suspect there's more to it though!

Kinda looks as if it is for plucking. Very hot water and you dunk the dead bird in the water and then pluck.

(quoted from post at 06:36:48 04/26/16) That thing in picture #2 that looks like a wheel is a thermostat. We used them on coal fired heaters in the brooder house

I was wondering if that was the case. They use something similar in incubators today. I'm guessing we're looking at the fuel tank and part of the feed unit. I'm curious where the fire part took place.

P I Pete has it right. Feul tank for a brooder heater. We had one that looked identical. The disc that you see is part of the thermostat mechanism works like a diaphragm to open and close the feul flow. Just my .02.
