5/8 Drill-Out-type thing?

Some of you may be familiar with Alden's "Drill-Out", which is a combination reverse drill bit and broken bolt extractor (also sold under the Craftsman name). Some of you may also have uncomplimentary things to say about them but I like them because they're self-centering, which makes them a bit more foolproof when removing a broken bolt that has snapped off below the surface of a casting in an uncomfortably-oriented place.

Anyway, they seem to be available only up to 1/2". I need to remove a couple of broken 5/8" bolts and wondered whether anyone had come across a similarly-constructed thing at larger sizes. Thanks.

If you have a bolt that big broke you are likely to need more torque than those can provide so probably why they don't make them bigger. I have a set, well I should say a part set, wasn't too impressed since the first time I used them it caught and snapped off with very little force. Maybe mine was just a bad batch but I been hesitant to use them since then cause it sure is a hassle when you have a hardened tool now stuck in the stuck bolt

I use those square easy outs. They come in a set of four or five. Biggest one I think is about half inch. Have had good luck with them. Got them at NAPA.

What do you intend to use to remove the extractor once you break it off in the broken bolt?

Got access to and EDM?

I like to use these for screw extractors, broken bolts, stripped nuts etc. sometimes the left hand drill bit is all you need if you get lucky. These tools are not exclusive to snap on btw

Sorry for the large pics, they weren't that big on my screen, and it wont let me edit them.

I've removed many a broken 5/8" broken off stud from the axle housings of JD tractors. Just start in with a small bit centered best you can and keep going larger to the tap drill size and then tap out what's left. Many times you can use a sharp pointed punch at this point and bust it out of the threads too.
An easy out is just asking for more troubles if the broken off bolt was tight or rusted in place.
