Dad has a Craftsman set in a plastic case like that and it is virtually impossible to use without dumping at least some of them.

My grandpa gave me a nice craftsman set in a plastic case like that. Nice tools and nice case except only the sockets on one side "click" in so they won't fall out. I don't know how many times I've dumped it in the 6 months I've had it!

if you haven't dumped it out, you haven't USED it.

My pa and brother got me and my other brother tool sets in a case that looked like a tractor, with in a year the sets were depleted from being dumped to many times and tools going who knows where. FYI some of the tools are still around and get used, just that they got mixed in with the general tool pile(yes I said pile  ).

OH no no no! How about walking in to a commercial kitchen with a 25 pound tool box with all kinds of tools and nuts and bolts etc. Closed the lid and was distracted. You guessed it, Picked it up without latching. CRASH !!!! Took me about 1/2 and hour and still lost a couple of tools.

I finally gave up on those tool boxes just for that reason they are handy to have around but the big ones that hold a couple hundred pieces are a bigger pain than there worth . the small sets I still have a few Around .

Blame it on the manufacturer.
Actually, on my work site there are several people who write "UP" on their tool cases with a magic marker.

I have a set of taps & dies like that. I hold with the hinge side sitting on the bench then open it, works well that way.

I have a set of starret pin punches in a round wooden container, you can't easily tell the difference between top and bottom so I have sent punches to the floor many times. I wrote no in red on the bottom and yes in green on the top, no more problem.

That's hardly enough tools to worry about. A few years ago, I was moving my 42"x5' upper and lower roller cabinet in the bucket of the skid steer from one barn to the other. Unfortunately, I failed to lock the drawers. Hit a bump in the yard and bucked the cabinets out drawers first. Spent the better part of 4 hours picking a couple of thousand tools out of the grass. At least they didn't roll very far.

I gave up on the plastic case tool sets, but have a set of garden tools in a plastic case that every time I open the case the hoe head falls out of it's place.
