Hoped the people who stole my DeWalt tools were stupid enough to take them straight to the pawn shop. They weren't.

But I did pick up a magnesium snap-on 1/2 inch impact for $50. I'm guessing it was stolen at some point as well. Anyone who hadn't stolen it would have known to pull the cover off to show them it was a snap-on.

Don't know if all state laws are the same, but in Texas anything that goes in a pawn shop stays on hold in the back for 30 days.

I doubt the shop would let you look, but they can't stop the police from looking. If you have reason to believe your tools are at a pawn shop, and the theft was reported, ask the police to check. The shop will have to forfeit them.

They have to hold for at least 30 days, I think they hold longer. He said anything out front they have had at least 4 months, and that they haven't had any cordless tools come in.

He also said you can tell when the drug shipments come into town by the number of thefts.

Gee and one of my maintenance men was of the opinion if you went tot eh pawn shop and bought back your own tools it wasn't really receiving stolen goods

This may not apply to your state/area

But you went to the wrong place (pawn shop) to look for your item.
Even if the pawn shop had it they will hide it fast as they are out what they paid for it.
You do not buy it back; they have to give it back to you.
You should have went to the police.
The police can check a data base (at least around here) of all incoming items to see if a match is found.
