Porter-Cable Pancake compressor

I'm needing a new portable compressor. HD has 6 horse, 150 psi pancake on sale for $99. Good compressor? Good price?

Yes to both. At first couldn't get it to pump up tho it ran fine. Took it to a nearby P-C dealer & he fixed it in a minute. So simple I felt stupid, as I knew it would be something simple. When it came from the factory the bottom drain valve was wide open but I couldn't hear the air hissing out for the noise it made. When I turned it off, all the air was already out so I couldn't hear it leak. Factory mans idea of a joke I suppose.

Is that maybe a 1/6 horse?

I don't like the noise of any oiless compressor. I don't think they last as long as compressor with oil. I threw away two oiless compressors, junk

I've had one for about 10 years now. Got it in a package deal at HD, buy 3 nailers and get a free compressor. I've used it quite a bit, but not commercially. Had no problem with it.

One thing I like, it will hold air almost indefinitely. I can leave it unpluged for weeks and it will still have air, ready to go, portable enough to air up a low tire without dragging out the extension cord.

I've had a HF pancake compressor for 15-20 years which I carry in my work truck. There's not a week go by I don't use it. It's been a really good tool. Mine isn't oilless though. It's a little loud but I don't think I would ever purchase another oilless compressor. The one I bought I gave it away because I couldn't stand the noise.

While in process of moving my home and shop I didnt have any way to run my two large 220 3ph compressors but kept finding myself in need of air, mainly for tires. Lowes had a similar Bostitch "pancake" unit on sale with 4 nail guns so I bought it. I certainly would not want one as my primary compressor but it is handy and light weight. I use it like a self filling portable air tank. If you run it on an extension cord be sure it is a heavy one, they do pull some amps both starting and under load.

I have a Dewalt and it quit running thought it was the pressure switch got one put it on still would not work called them and they asked if I has pushed the reset button. I did not know they had one they told me where it was and they asked if I had been running it off an extension cord and I had. Like mentioned it needs to be a heavy cord or plug it direct to an outlet. Works fine.

You want a oil type unit. Oiless is for breathable air and they do work but will wear out with any heavy use. RIGHT now at your local HF store they are having a Tag Sale. Item 68740 is a little wheeled tank type oil type compressor for $100.oo. Go get it. Perfect for what you mentioned. They also have the stacked type item 60567 for $130.oo If you buy one go buy a bottle of 30wt ND oil for it and don't use the junk that comes it the box. If you check the oil now and then and wash out the air filter this machine will last you a very long time.

Yup down there underneath by the shroud around the motor. Little white or black button. Makes you feel sill don't it? Been there. You need a 10 or 12 extension cord. MUCH better to buy another air hose and just run that out to where you need it. When the neighbor was putting up a tractor shed I ran hoses all of the way over to his lot. Close to 400 feet. I even have a relay air tank. You hook it up near the end of the run and it acts as a big holding tank for your air guns. Worked fantastic.

i have a porter pancake also. its a nice portable compressor. i can toss the generator in the truck, compressor and air nailers and off i go. mine is about 10 years old or so, never had a problem. they are a little noisy, but with the generator running, cant really hear it!!

I have this same package. It made me wonder how I ever got along without it. Compressor has been more than adequate and we will run 1/2" impact or die grinders occasionally. Just have to be a little patient for it to catch up once in awhile.

I have five air compressors ranging from 5 HP to 1.5. Oldest I purchased used. Its 65 years old. All work fine. Can anyone say that about a noisy oiless?

I had two oiless, junk. Won't hold up if used steady all day use.

My neighbor left a Thomas pancake, turns about 1750 so it's nice and quiet. I've got one of those 7 gallon oil less and it's a screamer, put it in another room and close the door.

george, here at the shop i have 2- 10 hp 3 ph 120 gallon compressors, an 80 gallon 5 hp at the farm, and a 7.5 120 gal. and a 30 gal 110, at the home garage. yup the pancakes are not long lived, but sure easy to carry around!!

Mmm... Pancakes sound good!!! Next time i am in indiana, i'll give ya a holler and we'll go for pancakes!!!

SWMBO bought me a PC pancake some years back for an interior project where snaking a hose from the big compressor through the house would have been a giant pain. It's been a good compressor, but like others mentioned, it's very, very loud.
