Junk cordless batteries?

How do you safely dispose of dead Ni-cd and Li-ion batteries. I thought I posted this question earlier but don't see it. geo

Our town has a Hazardous Waste Disposal unit that we take batteries, electronic circuit boards, CFL bulbs, chemicals, etc., to for safe disposal. They require an I.D. to make sure that you live in the town. I think that in some places you may not have to be a resident to take hazardous waste. The county where we used to live had a drop-off place but it was only open a few times a year.

I know that batteries should not go to the landfill. If there is not a place near you, maybe a friend will take them to a facility where they live.

My Home Depot takes them. Hopefully they don't just dump them in the dumpster and actually do the right thing.

I forgot, once a year I can take them to fairgrounds to recycle. Thanks for the idea. NiCd are toxic, don't want them in landfill.

Not worth rebuilding junk, NiCd. I bought my last one years ago. Same with Li ions. Doubt if batteries plus could rebuild them.
