Got dads old 330 Homelite running good

I wanted a 20" bar chainsaw so I dug my dad's old 330 Homelite out. I got it cleaned up and put new chain on a couple of weeks ago, but could not make it idle. I searched the internet and found that the boot that goes between the carburetor and engine gets old and cracks, so I ordered a new one. You have to take the case apart to change it, so it is quite a job. I took it apart today and the old boot was hard and cracked. I installed the new one, adjusted the mixtures and it runs pretty good. I washed all the parts off in the parts washer while it was apart, so it is clean as new now. I think it must have been starting to crack when my dad had it because the mixture screws were way further out than they needed to be.

It was used a lot, he cut a lot of wood, but I only have $50 in it and do not cut that much wood.

I do enjoy fixing up his things and using them.

I,ve got a 360 on my workbench right now with the same problem. It was so bad that when I went to remove the boot it came apart like a piece of taffy. The fuel tank was also horrible. Some kind of black liner, don't know if it was factory applied or not but it was peeling off in chunks, four hours of cleaning later...looks pretty good. I rigged a temp intake tube just to see if it would run, surprisingly it ran good, so new boot on order...

Hello David G,

Man that looks like new! I have some 16" bars, mostly used for trimming and small stuff. You'll like the extra 4". Bet you it will be your go to saw from now on.....

GUIDO.

I've never been a fan of that particular series from Homelite, but it's nice to see people using the older saws. IMO they're much better tools than most of the non-pro grade stuff available today. Sadly, most people won't even see if they can be fixed when time and ethanol take their toll.
