I need to mark the timing point on a flywheel. I've seen where some used parts are marked with a white marker of some type, what is it and where do I get it?

White-out.

Be sure to clean the area with a fast drying solvent like 'brake cleaner' before you mark the line.

A "paint marker" from the craft dept at Wallabee World works well.

The timing mark is usually a groove. I mask off the flywheel and spray it with aluminum paint. The aluminum paint seems to reflect better than white.

sharpie brand makes a silver pen that shows up very nicely.. I use for marking cut lines for torch and plasma cutters.. it almost glows... seems like I also remember one of the Auto aftermarket folks selling a tape that has the degrees on it...clean the dampner and stick it on.
