(But it IS a TOOL for making coffee!)

An assortment of percolator replacement "domes" found in a bunch of stuff a friend got out of a long-closed hardware store.

I didn't know you could even buy those.Looks like three people needed one.

Back in 1997 the local lumber yard/hardware store sold out. The store was originally built and opened in the very early 1900's. It had been operated by several different people over all those years. When they cleaned out the original building. They found three unopened wooden kegs of nails, parts for horse mowers and even a canvas for a grain binder still in a DEERING crate. The owner didn't know that stuff was even in the building.

Just picked up a percolator in a local thrift store without a dome. Only paid a quarter, and only plan on using it for boiling water, but it would still be nice to have it complete. Got a few camping friends who insist on percolated coffee while we're out in the woods, and I will say it beats instant coffee all hollow!

I think he would still have them, I could snap a photo of the other side with measurements, and post it. Might be a few days, tho.

Probably not worth it, though I appreciate the offer, Bob. Like I said, it's only a 25-cent percolator, and I don't have much of a use for it even if it was complete.

My goodness, the things we still find. Which reminds me, I have two or three stainless percolators that use tops like that, I need to visit our local hardware and see if he may have any left. Little hardware has been in business for about seventy or more years, but as of late, he is not replacing a lot of items, such as paint, nails, nuts and bolts, etc. I guess he just can't compete with Lowe's and other large operations. This is one of those old hardware stores with the ladder that rolls down one side of the store, and the shelves go to the ceiling, the big rotating nail bin, etc. When this man retires, it will likely be closed, and another piece of Americana will bite the dust.

Good find Bob!

I have an old percolator that I'm especially fond of, even tho we've not used it for 30 years. It's an exact match to the one on the stove in Matt Dillon's sheriffs office on the Gunsmoke shows. It's not unusual for Matt to walk over and pour a cup from it. A foolish reason to keep something.

A few years ago e ha da local hardware store that had filter discs for milk strainers and wicks for a Perfection kerosene range on the top shelf.

Yes, those are something every hardware store used to stock. For years I used an old electric percolator my parents had discarded; it worked perfectly and I'm sure someone got a good deal on it at Salvation Army after my wife tossed it.

And I have an old wood/coal stove like they have in Doc's office part of the time. Funny how things you're familiar with jump out at you when you see them on a show.

My grandfathers percolator that we use broke the glass piece years ago as well! We used it for a while with a measuring cup wedged in the hole but it wasn't quite water tight. Neat find.
