bridgeport milling machines

There is a auction coming up with two 9X49 Bridgeport milling machines on it. One has DRO and power feed on table, older machine but still used couple times a month. Second one is has no extras and is used mostly for drilling and also has a problem with the start switch. How much are they worth, ballpark? Thanks

I have a smaller 8 X 36 with the DRO and power feed I bought used at the Portland IN spring swap, think it was 1700 delivered, seller was headed back to Michigan and delivered on the way home.

First one maybe 1500 to 2500 depending on how nice it is, tight ways, not beat looking, no odd noise when you hear it run. Second one maybe 800 to 1500 again depending. Are they 3 phase? Do you have 3 phase?

Look the one with power feed over closely. I have seen several that were used for nothing but squaring blocks and heavy stock removal. Many are "loose as a goose".

I've seen nice ones with no frill go for 1400. The longer they are the better. To me the power feed and DRO doesn't mean a whole lot for handy man home use, especially if it means it was used for high use semi production

DRO is nice to have. As others said, watch the power feed table, it may have seen heavy use.

Ive seen them go anywhere from $1000-$2500 depending on condition lately.

Mine at home is a 2hp bench top. No DRO. I learned on dials so its no big deal to me. Especially as I am only making one piece at a time.
When I was looking most of the mills for sale close were really whopped out, if not they were way overpriced.
The economy was good, so people were paying too much for used worn out shop equipment.

I'm always looking for deals on machine tools/tooling, and the other posts are spot on for the prices. That said, you might get lucky, but being in an auction -vs- the 'open market' they will both probably go for more than they are worth.....

If your serious about getting a mill and these two sell too high, try somewhere like HGR Industrial Surplus.

I got a quote from a used equipment dealer in Illinois for a 2hp mill with readouts on the x and y also has power feed on table, they are asking $2400.00 for each. looks as they were taken care of and I think could get one for $2000.00 so that is what I have been seeing, good luck.

I can do without a DRO easy enough. Ours came with one but when we got it home it did not work. It did we looked at it though.
I sure do like the power feed ! Makes it real nice when facing off something to keep a constant even speed. I have resurfaced several manifolds and heads where manifolds set. Any tooling if included can make it an even better deal than the prices listed below as tooling adds up FAST !

Besides, condition, extra equipment, the location makes a yuge difference. If you were in the rust belt the last 8 years, there were thousands of manual tools scraped or sold for just above scrap value.

Now someplace that doesn't have much or any industrial business, a manual Bport is going for 50-100% more than in Detroit. Especially if you're waaayyyy out in the boonies and it's a 1000 mile roundtrip to actually see a machine, let alone buy it and transport it back.

I looked for 10 years and finally found my deal in San Francisco; they used to have a lot of blue collar work, but no more. I got it from the Original Owner, it was 35 years old and had sat in the corner for the last 10. It was used to cut plexiglass plastic sheet to make architectural models of buildings, stadium, or office buildings. So it was tight, fully tooled, probably could look another 10 years and not find another deal like it. $2800 and it took 3 trips with a Camper Special to get all of it home.
