XRP battery pack

Hello,

Needed the drill to get the tarp off the wood pile. Not many screws but no need to charge the pack. A week or two ago I topped it off. Was curious of how it kept the charge. It warmed up to 30 degrees when I took the picture. Second picture was the end voltage. Like I said not a lot of screws but it did what I needed to do,

Hello David G,

It is dated 2009. I got it out of the recycle bin 3 to 4 years ago. Only thing I did is charged it, still working!

I have 2 of them from 2009 that still work pretty good, not super but pretty good.

The 2008's died.

Hello David G,

One of mine from 2009 died as well. I'm hoping to have enough cells to make another pack,

Guido did you know the XRP may be better for lower temps? but they have:

Relatively low specific energy compared with newer systems

Memory effect; needs periodic full discharges

Cadmium is a toxic metal. Cannot be disposed of in landfills. So what do I do with the dozens of so junk Cd's I've collected over the past 20 years? Do you think the EPA may someday ban Ni-Cds?

High self-discharge; needs recharging after storage.

You know the battery voltage really means very little. Show the voltage when it's under load.

I recently wired my grinder so I can measure both current and voltage. Grinder under no load will use 6 amps. See how long your voltage stays up after 5 minutes. My Ni-Mh will show 16.5v after 5 minutes.

I really need to find a load that will draw 10+ amps to show what my saws and grinder use under full load. Hard to use grinder and measure volts and amps at the same time.

Please Post your load test.

Hello Geo-YH,In,

Last time I load tested A 18V pack I used a single 1157 automotive bulb. Anything pass 1/2 hour is good at 14v.
I also posted pictures of the other bulb dischargers I use, as well as a bunch of power resistors. No need for them, I use them to bring the pack down before charging. I do have one set of power resistors in the race box, at .2 ohms One set of six 1157 bulbs is all you need for a serious discharge rate. Have not checked how much the will draw at 18 volts, but it will show a week pack in a hurry. The other bulb set has 10 1157 bulbs, I call it the dumpster. It will dump-discharge any pack swiftly.................
