Interesting post on concealed carry!! My compliments to all for staying civil all the way thru it. We are fortunate to live in a free country where we have a choice of being prepared to protect ourselves and family if we choose to. My question to all who carry; Do you have separate insurance in case you have to use your weapon, or does your standard liability cover you if you need to use your gun? My homeowners will cover me as long as I am within the law if I use my weapon, but the insurance co. wants to know if I have a cc permit and am carrying or will carry. What do you all do?? Chris

I live in New Jersey and it is almost impossible to get a CC permit. In my blogs I advise Gun enthusiasts to avoid spending any tourists dollars in New Jersey and New York. These two states hate gun owners and will come down hard on gun owners if you are carrying. Its really a joke here in Jersey. The state has four cities(Camden,Newark,Trenton,Jersey City)on the national violent city list that you don't want to visit, even in the day time. I will be moving back to Penna in the near future. I had a CC permit for fifteen years there and only had to carry when I visited kin in Philadelphia.

Interesting question. If my life was in danger enough to have to pull a gun I think I can honestly say that insurance would be the last thing on my mind. I have had the questionnaire at the doctor's office asking if I had guns in the house. I usually draw a line through it and write in "do you also want to know if I have jewelry in my house?".

Exactly. The next to the last thing I ever want to have to do is use a gun in a defensive situation. The very last thing I want to have to do is watch helplessly while my loved ones or my life or my property is taken from me. Insurance? My first concern in the aftermath is if I'm going to be spending the rest of my life in prison because some scum sucking lawyer portrays what I did to protect myself, my family or my property as wrong. Felt the same way when I was still a cop.

I kind of like that New Jersey is not the wild wild weast . I worked in Jersey City all my life and never had a problem. Yet in other states people shoot each other for road rage incidents. Shoot em if ya got em.

Wow, Jersey City must be paradise without all those scary guns turning it into the wild west. This is the first 3 articles that popped up on a quick search, Shoot 'em if ya got 'em huh?

I couldn't just stand by and "hope the criminal would be a nice guy and not hurt me, my family,or friends." I open carry a Remington R1911 Enhanced .45 ACP loaded with Silvertips. My concealed weapon is a Taurus .38 Special loaded with Silvertips. I hope I'll never have to use either one on a terrorist or a maniac who thinks a abundant attorney, judge, and jury will see to it that he is freed because "the gun did it."

But I will if need be to protect innocent people.

Guns have no more brains than tractors. Some people shouldn't own a tractor. A tractor cannot start itself and do stupid things. A gun cannot get up and do anything by itself either. There must be some willing person to get on the tractor or pick up a gun, and do something stupid, because of stupidity, meanness, lack of respect for others, etc.

Some people have less brains, and common sense, than inanimate objects.

What others have said. If I ever had to use a firearm for self defense, I think insurance would be the last thing on my mind. There's the old clich?, "I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six".

That's funny. (actually its sad). I looked up Road Rage New Jersey - the first story was about a POLICE OFFICER that shot a driver because of road rage.

But if you aren't a cop you just take your chances.....

Road rage in New Jersey is so bad they passed laws increasing the punishment:

Wonder what they'd do if they got stuck behind a combine?

Got my lifetime CC in mail today.Had one years ago in Indiana. When living in western Montana no need, just carry.

I'm in the troop that don't worie about it,I do see where it is headed,it will be like auto insurance you will have to also Carrie uninsured policies ! Which means you will be insuring the scum bag that is trying to do you harm !

The only local shootout that occurred was the cops from Lodi vs Garfield in a drunken parking lot duel after a PBA meeting. Most towns the cops never had the gun out of the holster.

Like I posted below where I live the cops have never had the guns out of the holsters. Bank was robbed in 1963 and the last police chief caught the guys back when he was a rookie.. Just not many shoot outs.

Doesn't seem as if Jersey's gun laws are doing much to stop road rage shootings though - in fact they seem to have contributed to it.

If you were to look up the town where I live you would find one murder . A drunk woman kicked her kid in the head and the kid died.

Before retiring from the NJ State Judiciary, my IT job took me to the Probation Dept. in Camden,Newark,Trenton and Jersey City. You don't want to spend too much time there at night. These cities are nationally rated as high crime cities.

There are a few companies that will provide concealed carry insurance. you will have to google it. As part of the policy they will provide you a list of nearby gun friendly lawyers if you ever need one.

I worked in some of the most rural areas in NYS. I don't know where you live, it's none of my business. But I cannot believe that there is any area in the US anymore where the cops have never had to drawn down on someone. I don't mean shoot anyone, I mean take someone into custody at gun point. Wording something in the manner you did defies logic.

I, personally, have a legal liability policy for Concealed carry with a $300,000 limit. I have mine through US Concealed Carry Association. Costs about $260 a year and I sleep good. If I wait till after an incident, I can't get legal insurance. The sue happy society and scumbag lawyers itching to sue anybody, I did not to depend on my homeowners liability to protect me. After all, the issue of legality for my actions is the opposing lawyers nnalert card. James in Ok

Bret, If you are responding to an individual post within the discussion you hit reply under that post. If you just post into the discussion it is to respond to the original poster who started the forum.

I was responding directly to your post. Been here 20 years, know how the system works. If the cops where you live have never drawn a gun, they aren't doing much in the way of police work. I think it's an exaggeration.

If you hit reply to my post it would come out under my post. You just did it again where it appears as a response to the original poster , not to my posting.

Dr Sportster, what I see is your post quoted. I don't know why you are seeing me replying to a different post.

If one of you is using the modern version, and the other is using the classic version, then there is the problem.

(quoted from post at 12:38:17 02/12/16) That is kind of weird . I was starting to think Bret didn't like me or something lol.

If "classic" was eliminated, and everyone used "modern" life would be so much simpler, and it would be much easier to carry on a discussion on YT.

(quoted from post at 16:34:43 02/12/16) Maybe the classic view I use is coming out different? In classic you hit reply to the guy you are posting to.

I use Modern view. I hit the reply to your post and I see this- "
(quoted from post at 16:34:43 02/12/16)". I guess using the different "views" screws it up.

Ain't that the truth. And if I understand correctly we could get the ability to edit back.
