laser levels....best?

I figure the only way I am going to get everything level in the new shed is if I use a laser or a water hose...but even this is too large for a water hose. Who makes the best laser levels?

I have had my Dewalt self leveling rotary for over 10 years. takes 12 or 18 volt batteries and has been trouble free.I had to purchase a new detector a few years ago. It is a rugged piece of equipment!

Not being smart, but how can it be too large for a water level? Get the air out and a 500 ft tube will accurately show level.

Have to agree Andy , I used 200 feet of black irrigation tube with clear tube fitted to each end to determine levels on my barn site . Worked a treat , cost almost nothing and the water went onto the nearest tree when I had finished .

One sunny summer morning I filled my water level hose from the water hydrant, set it up, and went to work using it. A couple of hours latter something didn't seem right. The sun had warmed the 55* well water, which caused it to expand.

So when you fill your water level, be sure that the water is the same tempature as the ambient air.

For what you are doing, I doubt you would want to invest in the best, especially if buying new! You could go for a lesser model, or find a better used one. Either choice has a degree of risk. Might consider renting a good one if this is a one time use.

In my experience for occasional use you can not beat a water level for accuracy and flexibility. The lasers that I have looked at (at a price I would be willing to pay) always seem to have accuracy in the +/- 1/4" range. I am a bit of a perfectionist when building or remodeling and I can't consider something like that.

My approach has been to go to Menard's and get a 50' roll of 3/8" clear plastic tubing priced around $20.00 Filling it with water is best done by siphoning from a bucket or other container. this gives 100% fill with no air bubbles. Let a little water out to give an air gap on both ends.

With the help of an assistant establish a starting line with one end held securely at that point you and then free to move around and make matching lines within the span that the hose length will cover. If you need more you can always add on with a barb and more hose.

I have done plenty of projects using the hose level and results are great. A nice feature is that you can go around corners out of the line of sight that a laser would require.

If you are looking for a good deal on a laser I would suggest CPO tools.

Good luck
