The one 14.4v battery in cordless saw is not recharging anymore. Facing replacement (off brand) for around $45 per pair) and saw an ad in our local Theisen's for an 18V pair including the drill and charger for$90. Wonder if it is the same battery connection and whether the saw can handle 18V. Guess I will have to make a 35 mile round trip to look at the deal. Anyone know if 18V would smoke the saw? IaLeo, I would say that an 18v dewalt battery should fit in the 14.4v saw based on the fact the
dewalt charger will charge all dewalt batteries. When I built my pole barn, I purchased a dewalt
self leveling rotating laser. It came with a 14.4v Ni-Cd battery, which I gave to my boy who had
a 14.4v drill. The laser is designed to work on an dewalt battery and my 18v battery works fine.
I was looking for an 18v drill motor. Some place I read a 14.4 volt motor could be used. So there
is a chance you won't toast the saw, then again you might, just use your nose. If the smoke
leaves the saw, you are in trouble.
A good chance your $90 BARGIN may come with wimpy batteries or old batteries. A pair of XRP's
sell for around $90. If you look on all dewalt batteries there is a date of manufacture stamped
on them. Usually dewalt runs specials to get rid of the old inventory.

usually they have a tab or locating fin that prevents them from being used in wrong voltage tool . That said , I ground fin off my 18 volt snap on battery and used it in 14 volt impact , dealer said it would smoke out at some time.I just use it for home use.

No. 18v battery will generally not work in 14.4v tool without modification. But
14.4v battery will work in 18v tool.
And chargers will generally handle all voltages up to the charger rating. Li-o-ion
batteries require a special charger, so if you have a charger for Li-Ion, you can
handle any kind of battery.
