Dewalt 18v batteries

All my cordless tools are 18v dewalts. Have several batteries that have failed. Seems like always coming across ads for companies that rebuild them and say they are better. But if you start looking at prices and shipping there is no savings that I can see. Has anyone had them rebuilt and is it worth it or should I just buy new ones?

Dewalt is suppose to have an adapter coming out to use the new style lithium batteries. You can rebuild them yourself also takes sub c cells.

I just watch around father's day or Christmas and Lowes will always have a drill two batteries and a charger on sale for $100.

I have been told Battery Joe's rebuilds them with lithium batteries for about the price of a new one. My brother-in-law has them done there and says they have a lot longer run time. He says it is worth the money.

I don't know about rebuilding the batteries but I bought a set of new replacement 18V batteries and was very disappointed. I used to work all day with one battery and now I'm taking both batteries and the charger with me to the jobsite every day.

I don't recall his name but one of the regulars here talk's about rebuilding them yourself. Hopfuly he show's up soon because he has far more experience than me but here's how I do it. Charge pak, take it apart and check voltage on each cell, mark bad and/or good as you go. Replace bad cells in paks with good cells salvaged from other paks. For more power and longer life you can ordor all new sub-c cells to replace all cells in the pak.

I have tried rebuilding before from the pro's and never again will I waste my money on it unless I do the work myself. I don't know if they used cells that had sat on the shelf for 5 years or what but they never lasted long maybe a year. If you were to buy nicad cells with comparable capacity you will be close to new price anyways.

You can buy cheaper batteries off ebay cheaper than you can rebuild them. I've been looking at a 4000 ma-hr lithium ion from amazon, $75 with charger.

No battery likes the cold, store inside when below 40.

Both types of nickle batteries, Ni-Cd and Ni-Mh self discharge, up to 20% in 24 hrs. Up to 30% in the first 10 days. Ni-Cd have a memory, Which requires special care. Ni-Mh require a special charger. Most cheap Ni-Cd off ebay are rated at 2 amp hr. The expensive dewalt XRPs are rated at 3 amp hrs. My experience is they are more expensive than 3 amp Ni-Mh off ebay, which requires the same charger as Dewalt Li-ion. I purchased two Dewalt Li-ion in 2009. Only one battery is still working, but can't handle the big tools, a very wimpy battery.

I'm still using my first Ni-Mh batteries I purchased in 2008 off ebay. They can pack a punch, but you need to drop them in the charger just before you use them. I have 7 Ni-Mh batteries and one Li-ion.

Looking forward to trying the 4 amp Li-ion battery.

DON'T SPEND A DIME ON REBUILDING, CHEAPER TO BUY NEW OFF EBAY OR AMAZON. Plus try to find a seller with an extended warranty and free return shipping.

I went into a shop that sells and repairs battery's, I had two for a 14.4 volt Lincoln grease gun. He looked at them and said "I don't repair these any more, I can sell you a new one for the same price". The new one's he had were an aftermarket batt'. Well - the price was right and he had them. They are a year old now and still doing fine. Time will tell. If it had been a 12 volt gun, I would have bought the Lincoln batt., but in my corner of the world, NOBODY stocked the 14.4 volt. He said he still rebuilds a few battery's, but only if the owner insists or there isn't an after market available.

grampy,
Recently there was a post on grease guns. Someone said Lincoln batteries were the same as dewalt. Might be worth checking out.

As for me, I got tired of my 12v ryobi drill not making it past one year, so lowes guy took my ryobi drill back and said try 18v dewalt. I have two years, if for any reason I don't like it, bring it back. I've been a dewalt fan ever since. Waited for them to come out with an 18v grease gun too. Dewalt might be the best tool, but I decided then to stick with one brand, because the battery is just as important as a good tool like you may be learning if you can't get a battery for your Lincoln.

I'm a little concerned, dewalt is now going to 20v. I think there are enough 18v dewalts, the battery after market will always be there.

I am still using DeWalt batteries from 2008, I had 2 from 2008 and 2 from 2009, the 2009 died last year.

I purchased two Li in 2009 along with special Li charger. One died shortly after warranty ran out. The other Li works, but it would take 3 of them to do what a 2008 Ni My can do. No battery lasts forever. Like people the old older they get the weaker They get
