My Makita chop saw broke the armature shaft where the gear end is. What brand do you folks on here think is the best Irand? My Makita was over 25 years old and had been a good one. The armature is obsolete and not available any longer.

My Makita went bad (armature burned up). Looking around I bought a Rigid because it had a cast iron table, not stamped steel. Had it over ten years and have no complaints. It also will cut deeper than some, a real plus if you're like me and like to use the blades down.

Well that makes me fell better about paying 60 bucks more for a Milwaukee that was made in Japan. I have a letter around here from Milwaukee assuring me how great it was even though they " temporarily" had to go to an outside source. I think my letter said " what is this made in Japan crap". But they did write back to me.

The last (very last) Milwaukee 4" angle grinder turned out to be made in China. Did not hold up, gears stripped in no time!

Replaced it with a Mikita, so far so good, much heavier feel, solid tool.

I can't believe a great company like Milwaukee is pulling this . It is like; do I want a Chinese jack from sears for 139 bucks or do I want the same jack from Harbor- Freight for 89 bucks. Once it is imported all bets are off. It all might as well be H-F because the quality is gone. Take the famous name and shove it.

I've had a Rigid for about 10 years with no problems other than adjustment for an angle cut could be better designed.

We have two Makita cut off saws at our place, both are 20+ years old. I can only recall replacing a cord and a switch once. We have a couple good Makita dealers around here, if something goes wrong, like cords, switches, brushes, lost wheel wrenches and etc., they stock them. I don't have anything against Milwaukee tools, but you need something NOW, good luck, "We'll have that for you in a week or two".

Take the famous name and shove it, tend to agree. I used to think Michelin was the only tire I was going to buy. The boys at tire barn told me, ownership of Michelin changed and they don't stand behind their tires. They said I should go with a Yokohama, which is owned my China, but some are made in the states.

As for buying power tools at HF, I got tired of making two trips, one to buy the tool and one to return it. That said, I have 4 HF floor jacks and they have been good. My favorite HF tool is the circular saw blade sharper. I also like their hard rubber wheelbarrow tires.

i used to run those then when last shot sparks out motor,i bought a ellis bandsaw. best thing i ever did,no more basically burning the cut threw,no more smoke or hot pieces. would never go back . i cut straights, angles, what ever need wood plastic or steel

Thanks for all of the good advice. After checking the prices and the star ratings, I am going to order a Makita # 2414NBX2, which Includes a Makita Angle Grinder for less than $210. W/free shipping. My old one was a #2416S with a 16" blade. Thanks again everyone who posted. Jim

On another note the Mikita has a crank handle to quickly tighten the vise and the Milwaukee has a peg like handle which is slower.

I brought the same deal the grinder did not last long its a P.O.S. Its not the same as the other Makita I have with a metal head. I am not pleased with the saw either both are low end tools... I should have known the quality was for a home owner were they would sit and not be used...

You are going to pay top dollar for a cheap saw just to get a cheap grinder that's the way I look at it... I brought a 1/2" Makita drill the chuck is the worst I have ever used I went ahead and spent the $ for a Milwaukee it has served me well.

I found Ellis band saw at a deal on cracklist I rarely use a chop saw any more :D

Hi, I have a Makita compound cut off saw, reciprocating saw, 1/2"hammer drill for concrete or rock, and held jig saw, 4"angle grinder. 2 skill saws. Never had trouble with any. BUT I had a 9 volt drill driver with 2 batteries and charger. Batteries gave up. New ones cost more than anew 18v dewalt w/ charger and 2 batteries that I have now! Ed Will
