pressure tank on well

I am getting a pressure surge in my house water. Went to check my well thinking it could be the pipe to the pressure gauge. Didn't notice water coming from it but had a wet floor. Wondering if pressure tank has rusted through. Just bought this house and am wondering if I should invest in a plumber to check out. I'm thinking I could dig myself a fairly deep hole of aggravation trying to do this myself. Pretty tight quarters and just coming off hip surgery

Turn water on in house and see if the pump comes on right away. If it does then the bladder tank is leaking. Also check pressure gage if you have one to see if after the pump turns off and no water is being used that the pressure drops off. It could also be a leak in pipes near the tank but you would probably see that.

Sounds like the rubber bladder in you tank may have failed. That causes the well pump to cycle on and off constantly as it tries to maintain pressure. Switch the pump off, drain the tank down and see if it will maintain pressure at the a schraeder check valve.

Probly not a good idea to wait to call someone in.

As I was shutting the factory down last Friday I used the restroom and notices the sound of the water surging. I thought water logged, I need to shot the power off until Monday and blow the extra water out and order a new tank. My helper ask me a question and I walked out and forgot to turn the power off to the well. Monday, Now water. The surging twisted the shaft off between the motor and pump down in the well. The well is now fixed and the well people will install a new bladder tank when they get time. Not taking care of it Friday will cost a whole lot more money.

Even if your bladder is leaking, you could add air. The air won't stay in tank very long, but perhaps long enough for your hip to heal. I don't see why you can't add another bladder tank any place it fits. I have two tank side by side in by basement. I had a new well installed in my other place. I'm using my old tank along with the new tank. No big deal.

I just got done with this very problem myself. I thought the wet floor was from too much rain outside and kept ignoring it. My pressure tank had a hole rusted in the bottom side. I could see a small mist coming out of it. The pump did keep coming on and off too but I thought the drainback valve had some sediment in it. I ended up draining the tank and finding the hole in the bottom. Cleaned off the paint to bare metal with some sandpaper. A small screw with a rubber washer worked for a while but the hole was just a bit too rusty to hold. I ended up using an aluminum pop rivet with a rubber washer on it to seal it up. Then I covered it up with about 3 layers of quick set jb weld and let it set for a couple of hours and turned it back on. Been high and dry for a month now. Probably go shopping for a new tank when she leaks again. Might be next week or 5 years from now.

Let's see:
$100 service call + $250 for a new pressure tank, done in half a day
vrs.
$10,000 to redo hip surgery and several months of rehabilitation.
I think I'd call the plumber.

call the plumber. if something else breaks, more than likely it will, he should have it on the truck. Mine is ready to be replaced and they will get to it as soon as it warms up some.
