ANother Question for Cowranch

I've just got a new-to-me HP Probook 6460b. It was on W7 and a local IT bloke fitted a new hard disk, migrated my stuff and upgraded to W10.

Now every so often I lose left click control of the bottom LHS windows button - none of the usual on screen activity.

By process of trial and error I found that I still have mouse control on a right click. And if I go "Shutdown or sign out/restart" things go back to normal.

Doesn't seem to involve windows updates. And Avast and Malwarebytes don't show any pox's.

Any suggestions as to what might be going on?

TIA

Sorry I missed this. I sometimes just glance through and don't check every day. Is this what's going on? Seems to be an issue for some people. No magic cure, but if you happen to have Dropbox installed, uninstall that and see. I see some say to remove the folders first. I have not had to troubleshoot this issue before, so I can't say what will work, and it appears that different things help different systems.

Thanks for this.

I'll do some reading and see. It is more a minor pain now I know how to get around it but I'm no lover of bugs or features.

I didn't read through much of what I sent, just quickly glanced. While doing chores I had some thoughts. I remembered while testing a pre-release of Windows 10 I did an upgrade from 8, start menu worked, but the formatting was messed up. I knew 10 had a refresh/reset whatever, but since I didn't have anything installed anyway, I just did a format reinstall so no leftover junk was around, and that fixed that issue

So, this looks like an issue that has been around. A refresh/reset may fix it, but it may come back. A "safe" way would be to make a new blank user account, log out, log into the new account. Settings should relatively be fresh, menu might work for a while anyway. It would be a way to check.

But, the other thought I had is, you could try installing Classic Shell. It would change the menu and a few other things, but -maybe- it would work, -maybe- it would make new settings and bypass whatever is messing up. It replaces the start menu so I'd think it would have its own settings. Worst case scenario it doesn't work and you can just uninstall.
http://www.classicshell.net/ If this issue keeps coming back for some people, I'd probably just try this first. I've never seen issues with Classic Shell locally, but have not installed it on 10 before.
