Dryer Again

I had the new to us dryer start working after we had some problems. It was a door switch. This is from a long time ago(July). Now the dryer will start a load, and shut off. Not all
the time, some times. It seems the bigger the load the faster it shuts off. Smaller loads can run longer. Also if we run the temp setting on low it seems to be fine. Is this the
thermo switch? Thanks as always guys.

Motor may be overheating and causing the thermal switch to turn off. Sounds suspicious that it shuts down fast with a heavy load.

I'm sure this is obvious, but is the vent system clean and free of restrictions all the way to the outside?

I've cleaned all the vents and the fan. The vent for my dryer is about 6 feet off the ground. It's not right out the back. Could that cause some problems? It sounds like a plugged vent but I am really sure it's not.

6 feet of clear vent shouldn't be too much. The original manual will typically tell you have many feet and how many elbows are allowed.

Gas or electric?

Does the dry stop completely, or does the heat just cut off?

Will it restart immediately, or do you have to wait?

I thought I had my vent clean until my motor died. I pulled off the front panel and the whole route the air takes from the lint screen, through the fan and out the vent was filled. I now disassemble every year or two and clean everything.

Grab the air hose gun and blow the begabbers out of everything. Motors have thermal overloads. Heat switches here and there. All kinds of fun things. Those heat switches can go bad and they get very ticklish.

It does sound like it's cyling out on overheat safety switch. If you are saying the hose rise's 6 feet virtically, that means cleaning more often than short discharge straight out. Discharge blockage can and often does occure "inside machine". Not nessarly just between blower wheel and hose, blockage is often somewhere in the reirculation loop.

Electric and sometimes it will restart other times it won't. I am going to try and do a full cleaning of everything. Its hard to get it apart. It doesn't have a nice easy access panel that I found yet. But I will work on it this week. Thanks guys.

ook for utube videos for your model dryer for ways to open and clean it. It may not help but it is worth a try.

Sounds like it's tripping a thermal overload switch, which might be caused by blockage or a faulty high limit switch. You'll need to break out your multimeter to troubleshoot it; dryers are usually fairly simple and there should be a schematic somewhere inside the dryer.

Had the same problem not long ago.
Inside the dryer near the door was a moisture sensor that just needed to be cleaned.
It senses the moisture and tells the dryer to shut off.
Wipe it clean with a paper towel if yours has one, might be a cheap fix.

I had a similar problem with my dryer. Seemed to be louder then I remembered when running. Then, after running a few minutes, it would stop and shut off. Turned out to be the motor. I replaced the motor and it has been fine ever since.
Just a note: I called the appliance parts supply and they wanted a fortune for the motor. Shopped eBay and found the motor for $60 delivered to my door. New old stock from a retiring dealer. The motor is a nearly universal fit - fits MANY makes and models of dryers.
