Old Forging Video

Wow that's pretty labor intensive, imagine how expensive chain had to be back then comparatively!

Thanks for the video links! I'm going out to fire up the forge and finish a froe that needs welded. 40 degrees here, great weather for working in the blacksmith shop.

Fascinating. I was a tool and die maker and worked around some large punch presses but I never had anything to do with forging. I recommend watching the video that followed this one.

I noticed the team work and rhythm. On one of the videos, maybe a different one, the last guy to start striking waits quite a while to get in at a good spot. There were maybe eight guys striking, I think making an anchor. Incredible work.

Yep, Mike, Forging History Videos is worth the hour and a half you'll spend watching forgings, little and huge, as well as die making and other stuff I never knew about. I'm humbled by my own stupidity vs. the genius minds that figured out how to do all those things.

Another thing I thought about was the heat. A couple of days ago went to see a good friend. He was burning scrap wood and cardboard. Had a pile about 3 feet high. We couldn't stand closer than 10 or 12 ft. most of the time. Those guys were only a hammer handle length away.
