What is it??

Well, I think I saw this thing somewhere else but I cant for the life of me figure out where or on what. Im thinking it may be from a machinists tool or a tool none the less. Its no bigger than 1-1/4" tall and the opening wont pass a 3/4" rod. The part with the opening and the thumb wheel are made of brass but it has a steel threaded part with a pointed tip. Any ideas?

It is very similar to a tie rod puller, but on a much smaller scale. Not for heavy duty use for sure. Used in the medical field?
Puller

OK, for size comparison, the whole thing, tip to tail, is smaller than my fat thumb. The slot in the bottom of the "thing" is 1/8" the thickness of 3 dimes. Thumb wheel is as round as a dime, about 3/16" thick, 1/4-20 threads with a pointed tip.

I have used a very similar tool for removing the HANDS on a HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TESTING CLOCK for calibration purposes.

It is a needle removing tool for recalibrating pressure gauges. You simply pull the needle off and relocate the needle to get your true zero reading

I have something similar for pulling battery cables off the post of a battery.

I have never seen anything like it, but would make a guess that it is a temporary shutoff for certain type of pressure fittings

Thanks guys! I appreciate the responses. I think it could be a few of those things being that the guy I got it from did work with guns and pressure gauges. I think its a little too lightweight to be used in a hard pressed use. Definitely not for battery cables though. Thanks again!!
