Daughter found this on the beach yesterday. Looks like a spark plug but no threads or way to fasten?? It does apparently have a core.

EGBinOR- Did you run a gieger counter over it to check the Rads? It could be from a boat from Fukushima.

Maybe the steel parts rusted/corroded away?

Picture is pretty much at random off Google, and I'm by no means claiming that's absolutely what it is--it was just a thought. As far as what holds them in, there's lots of different ways to skin that particular cat but many are just held in with a twist of wire, a pressed-on collar or a similar cheap-and-easy setup, meaning they quickly fall victim to shock, vibration, and similar causes if the grill's moved very much.

Some of the old spark plugs were made with a gland nut of sorts that held the porcelain into the steel base. This way you could take the plug apart to clean it.

I'm with Bob....if it's been in the ocean for a long time, the steel parts may have rusted away.

Looks like what is left of an NGK Industrial Spark Plug like used in Commercial Caterpillar generators or ship engines.
