log splitting valve -- 2 directional

bought a used & abused log splitter. converted it from small engine driven to tractor 3 point hitch. attached and moved log splitting 2 way valve. did not work. bypassed and hydraulic cylinder worked aok with remote selective control tractor valve. is there a way to clean out log splitting valve ? unit had been outside for long time.

spool moves freely aok. i think passageway gunked up. need to air psi or some type of cleaning method.

On the spool, yes.. a good cleaning and I want to say lube as well, will do wonders, more so if it has the detent that kicks the lever out when the cylinder retracts fully. My splitter control valve would stick before kicking out, that cleaning and lube with white lithium made it work as it should, instead of stalling the engine. However I am not sure about greasing these, compatible with o-rings or what, I did mine that way, thinking afterwards the oil should lube these ? Open center, seems the ends do get gunked up or can get rust from being outside, mine did have some minor rust as well.

Does the handle for the spool move as it should? Since this was run off of an engine have you checked the relief valve to see if it seating properly or if there is dirt under the seat?

hi john - spool works & moves aok. took out & cleaned spool. took off relief valve & and is ok. i think orifice is plugged somewhere. gummed up from sitting & filth.

I have a similar setup on my tractor. As Loren said; It won't do a thing unless the valve on the tractor is tied down to pass fluid to the 3 point that is essentially no longer in the circuit. Mine is hooked to the front bucket tilt cylinders and it does not work unless I have a bungie cord pulling the bucket handle into the 'curl' position all the time.
