New HF flyer for December...

HF is raising prices on almost everything in their December sales flyer. Might get better buys at HD & Lowes the way it looks. Just have to keep comparing prices.

I was stuck for a metric the other day and went to Lowes It was $5.49 for a Tawain socket Kobalt. A whole rack of sockets at H-F is like 10 bucks . Also the new diamond tip 19.99 Craftsman screwdriver set as seen in the TV commercial is MADE IN CHINA. I was very happy until I turned the pack over .

Went to NAPA auto parts and saw a small package of heat shrink tubing pieces for $7.99. Unbelievable! I think Lowe's is hurting now and can't keep up with Home Depot on prices. Went to buy a soldering gun and had them do a price comparison with HD and they were not honest about it.

Dick2,

Are you sure that the flyer represents new prices? I haven't seen it yet, but in general I find that Harbor Freight's prices are all over the place. No two ads ever seem to have the same prices. The flyers I get in the mail generally have higher prices than I see in any of their other advertising.

Just to get an idea of whether their prices have gone up, I looked at Harbor Freight online. They're having their big deal Black Friday 3 day sale. This means that the prices are pretty much the same as always. 4-1/2" angle grinder $10 (save 66%); auto darkening welding helmet $40 (save $89); oscillating multi-function tool $15 (save 70%); 90 amp 120 volt flux core-welder $85 (save $65). As usual, their amazing sale prices are basically the same as their everyday prices.

I actually have had good luck with the Taiwan tools over China tools. The majority of the Taiwan stuff is fairly good quality anymore. I have a couple of sets of Taiwan tools for carry around in the vehicle tools and the one in my pickup gets used a lot an I have yet to break or strip anything in the set.

A lot of the smaller items sale prices are up a dollar (or more) in the December flyer. The coupon prices seem to be pretty much the same, but non-coupon items are priced higher.

They are trying to make up a little for all the tape measures, screwdriver sets, flashlights, and meters that you'll have gotten free!!!

Don't know about tools, but in 1958 I was in the middle of a major confrontation between Nationalist China on Taiwan and Red China on the Mainland over the ownership and occupation of the Quemoy and Matsu Islands in the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and the Mainland.

Since then, at least in the local area, Matsu has become known for fine cutlery. Their raw material? The remains of all the bombs and artillery shells Red China lobbed onto the island in 1958.

Check their prices in January. December and just before Fathers day their prices go up. I just can t figure out why they would raise their priced before these days? :)
