It was used to give large pills-tablets to cattle you put the pill in the end then placed the device down the animals throat and pushed the plunger.

It is correctly called a balling gun and used to administer pills to cattle as answered by others. If you do not mind getting your hand dirty, you can reach into the first stomach with your hand and drop the pill without using the tool.

A cow "balling gun" That one you can get 2 Sustain II pills in it and down the throat it goes,and the cow recovers, unless you aren't paying any attention then down the esophagus, and its all over but the crying.

Used on horses also. It puts the pills back far enough in their throat that they have to swallow it, they can't get it out with their tongue.

Yes the pills are very big. They will fill the whole tube. My dad use to push the pill in then slap the cows face to make her swallow. If he didn't slap her sometimes she would spit the pill back out.
