Dusty, MAYBE the value of old 8 track tapes????????????

In our area it has a value WHICH IS NEGATIVE maybe - 10 bucks LOL. Many places theres a charge to accept them (if you can find such a place) and many places will not take them at all......... In some locations a Good Will or Salvation Army type store may take them free of charge. If you can find anyone wiling to pay any money at all, even if minimal, Id take the offer as it may save you the cost of what some official government recycling places charge you to take it.

Hope to see you this winter at Flywheelers????

(quoted from post at 08:46:52 11/21/15) Is there any value to a 20 year old 27" TV with antenna converterr ?

Dusty
ne day a year some counties take them for free. They probably break even or save money by not having to retrieve them from roadside ditches that 'dumpers' would leave them. All the other 364 days, there is a disposal fee, even by recycling companies, to take them.

I ask because I'v heard, I think, that there was gold in some circuit boards, and some where the gold was being recovered.
Gold is the best electric conductor there is.

I had to get rid of 2 of them in MI. The first one a 'resale' place took it. The next time they said they don't take them
anymore. The recycle center said they wanted $20. I said "for that no wonder they wind up on the side of the road". I threw
it in a friend's dumpster. I don't think they charge for tires anymore for the same reason. The side of the roads were lined
with them.

several years ago an acquaintance of mine filled up a garbage truck with them from a defunct tv place, it had been a tv repair and sales store for 30+ years. He said there were dozens of them in the back room and the new building owner wanted them gone. That night his truck caught on fire and burnt up. So be careful something in them will cause a fire when they are squashed up.

I've got a 32 inch under the workbench in the
machine shed. I moved it in this farm when I came. I
couldn't bear to throw it away because it worked.
And it weighs 900 pounds. It will still be there when
I die.

Pretty much all it is worth is something to watch TV on. I see old TV's given away all the time

You will probably have to pay to get rid of it, the value of the precious metals in negligible compared to the labor of removing them.

The TV is worthless. The converter box may be worth $20 to $40 on ebay or Craig's List.

To me if it works, it's just as good as a brand new one. I watch an old 27" RCA nearly every night. It has the same 250 channels of nothing to watch just like a new TV. :D

In the spring we have city wide clean up day. We put our junk out in the front yard and the city will pick it up and haul it off
for free.

The night before people go around and dig through your junk and take out what they want. It's a hoot to watch!!!

You would not believe how much exercise equipment get tossed out!

Your right, and it does work. We bought a new motor home and the TV in it was a 32" and when we will be watching it setting less than 10' from it. So we bought a smaller TV for the motor home, and replaced the one in the house with the one in the motor home.

The county where I live has a recycling center that will take them, but they ask for a $5 donation for each set. Every time I've been to the place there were several TVs and computer monitors stacked on the pallet.

The last heard, Goodwill and the Salvation Army are still accepting the old TV sets. I think they may take parts from some to fix others and re-sell them, so some people must still want those.

The gold was used as contact points in the OLD TV sets. Old enough that you had to get up, walk over to the TV, and manually turn the channel. Gold was not used in ALL TVs of that era, only in the higher end models.

You got that right, John. When I gave away my old Sony, the lady actually wanted me to deliver it as well. I had to draw the line.
