I noticed that Harbor Freight now is offering an 18,000 lb. pull winch. What can you anchor a winch that large to that will pull that amount? I have visions of a truck or tractor just sliding towards the object that the winch is trying to pull.

I've run a Cat that had a 50T Hyster on the back. You had two choices, best was two good sized trees to back up against. The other choice was start digging a hole...

I mounted a winch from a silo unloader and used a heavy electric drill to turn it.Had 100 feet of cable.

I used to chain my 1942 IHC Weapons Carrier to a tree when winching multiple hardwood trunks up steep hills.
Using the 12000 Lbs HF unit on my recovery trailer, I use big steel chocks, and leave the truck in 4 Low to help keep it from moving. I will be installing Line Locks on the brakes soon to take the strain off the driveshafts. I ruined a front driveshaft on my Jeepster winching someone out of deep snow up an embankment once.

Unfortunately, the nearest tree on our farm was 1/2 mile away - some were a mile or more away from where we managed to get stuck.

Get a couple of old truck axles and sharpen the ends with a cutting torch.
Sledge hammer one into the ground and hook on your winch.
If it is pulling out then hammer in the second one in on about a 30 degree angle and connect the two with a short piece of chain, they can be your best friend when no trees are in sight.
