Genaric Dewalt 18V batteries?

I am deep in 18V Dewalt power tools and use them a lot. I need to obtain a few batteries. On ebay there are generic 3000 mAh batteries that are a lot cheaper than Dewalt XRP type. Any body tried them? how do they hold up?
Thanks in advance

I bought some from the Sun Battery Co a few years back. They're all made in China these days I understand. Mine lasted as good as the OEM stuff. I'm currently getting some new 7 and 9 volt rigs for my old Makitas. I can pay $10 each on Ebay or $40 something each from Makita. I don't use them enough to justify spending 8 x what I bought the tools for.

I have used some pro cell or top cell replacements for Dewalt. I was not impressed with the fit and the battery life.

I did buy a cheap replacement for my paslode nailer 6 months ago and have been happy so far but the current draw on that gun is very small.

Check on Amazon, you can get good quality aftermarkets there or reasonably priced Dewalt ones, and you do not have to worry about the dependability of the seller.

Yea, I bought two of those ones on ebay. About a year ago. They still hold a charge about the same as when I got 'em.

If you are talking about the 18v genaric NI-Mh off ebay, they work great. However you will need a dewalt charger that is designed for them. It a yellow charger designed for Li-ions and it shuts off when charge is completed. Unlike the old black dewalt chargers that never shut off and cooked the battery. Dewalt work radio is also a charger. I have two radios and two newer 120v chargers. I allow my batteries to cool down a few hours before I charge them. Far superior to any dewalt battery, including Li-ions. I have 6 of them.

Hello Butch(OH),

Why discard the whole pack? Chances are there are more good cells then bad ones. Totally discharge all the packs to zero voltage. When A pack is in good shape, it will charge to 22 volts. It will measure 20V when is comes off the charger. There are 15 cells in those packs I doubt that all are bad! Every volt below that(20V) means you have one cell bad. 19V one bad cell,18V two and so on. If voltage is zero, that means you have a bad connection. It only takes one bad connection or dead cell for the pack to read zero voltage. If the cell is in middle of the pack, you mat read only 7 or 9 volts. Where the cells is in the pack will determine the voltage. You said you have a few packs, bet you there are enough good cells to make up good packs. I do it all the time, The bare pack in the picture had just one bad cell, you can see the X where I replace it> I totally discharged the pack, ZERO voltage at the terminals. Now I will charge it slowly , about 1/2 amp, to equalize the cells, then after a second slow charge, it should take normal charging. If you are going to make up a pack out of two, make sure you have like cells. You may have to take the cover the cells to do that.Match whatever marking you find in the can, and you will come up with a good pack,

Guido.

Hi guys, Thanks for all the rebuild advise but as the big box stores phased out 18V I purchased many bare tools at deep discount. Thus I don't have any bad batteries, I need more batteries.

Hello Butch (OH),

NiMh Dewalt pack are available on Ebay for about $30 each @ 3000 Ma they should be a little better then the 2400 NiCad's. Get the charger for them though. They will go away quickly if overheated,
Guido.
